I have to flush out my water for hours and hours when they do this it cost me money to run all my faucets for a day. Sometimes I have to flush out thousands of gallons before it's clear.

Although I no longer live in Ironwood, the problem was just as bad before I moved. I have never seen such a disregard towards the community as the water company showed with their lack of concern for our water and ultimately our health.

I live on W Gogebic St in Ironwood. I pay upwards of $150 a month w three people living in the home. AT LEAST 3x a month we have brown water. I can not tell you how many clothes have been ruined by not knowing the water was discolored and doing laundry. My toilet is permanently stained due to the continuous water problem in Ironwood. Something needs to be done.

The city needs to address the issue at hand. The answer is not in raising our already high costs, but in acknowledging that their product is inadequate. Hydrant flushes deem my water unusable for days on end. The laying of the ice track (for which the city discounts water for the event organizers) does the same for weeks. Just last week the water in my neighborhood was accidentally shut off and when it returned it took an hour to flush the grossly discolored water through my lines again. I cannot even begin to estimate the amount of clothing the water has ruined. I have had to change faucets in my bath and sinks due to corrosion from the water. Enough is enough.

This is ridiculous! Lake Superior is RIGHT there! I have family and friends that live there. I live in Las Vegas, our water isn’t great(I won’t drink out of the tap) but it doesn't come out brown or stain porcelain. It’s fine to bathe in even though it’s hard as hell. Our water comes out of lake mead which is disgusting and almost empty! Also only pay $30-$50 a month for a family of 4!

I have lived on Kennedy Street in Ironwood, MI in the home my husband and I bought for 5 years. I was born in Ironwood but was raised in Montreal, Wisconsin. I have lived in Arbor Vitae and Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Upon moving to Ironwood I noticed the quality of the water to be poorer than what I was accustomed to. Specifically the strong smell and taste of chlorine. It wasn't long before I noticed that the color was also a bit off. At first I thought that it just was related to when they flush the hydrants, but the frequency didn't seem to be decreasing but rather increasing.
Since the fire next to Contrast Coffee downtown Ironwood, in which obviously they needed to rely on the fire hydrants to produce water to fight the fire, my water has been discolored more often than it has been clear. At first I thought it would just clear up, but it has not. I wonder if that episode has really caused some serious dysfunction of our City's water system.
I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old and I filter water for cooking and buy bottled water for drinking. This is not cost nor eco-friendly. I cringe when I need to bathe my children in the yellowish-brown water that comes out of the tap. The worst part is getting my bill, which compared to other municipalities seems extremely overpriced, even if the water was of perfect quality!
I wondered what was in our water to make it such a shade, so I asked Mr. Trevonen (so?) at the Ironwood City Water Department and he said that the discoloration is merely sediment that is disrupted when the hydrants are flushed and that the discoloration is of no safety or health concern. He recommended I try running my water more often during hydrant flushing episodes.
When I told him that I have done that to no avail, for up to 4 hours continuously, on many days, and that my water's color is not associated with hydrant flushing episodes, he said that perhaps my pipes were old or broken. He provided me with a diagram of where are my pipes a

Our water is the nastiest water I’ve ever seen. Last summer I broke my leg and I couldn’t even bathe have of the summer because the water would run blood red or rust brown. I cried every time I tried to run a bath. Just last week, I screamed when I turned on my shower because the water ran red. Ridiculous prices for unusable water. Shame on you, City of Ironwood.
