Since the occupation of Tibet by the Chinese forces in 1951, millions of Tibetans have been the victims of inhumane atrocities and about 2 million have lost their lives. Arbitrary arrest, repression, torture, intimidation, imprisonment have been the regular features for the last 60 years. In addition to this, the People's Republic of China has continued to exercise a harsh control over the political, cultural and religious rights of the people. It is high time that the Tibetans are given fundamental human rights and Tibet is recognized as an independent and a sovereign state.
