I have been watching the issues surrounding the work of Dorothy Kim and other PoC medievalists for a few years now, and can testify that this is a clear-cut case of manufactured abuse against a professional in good standing. At stake here is the protection of the freedom of speech of non-white academics in the United States. We have been recently hit with a spate of planned and mechanistic attacks from the so-called alt-right, and the results have been dismal. We need to reverse the trend ASAP, unless you really believe that the academy should go back to being all white-male in positions of authority, in which case, let me know so I can start packing my bags sooner rather than later, since I imagine this is what you would like of the country as well.

I applaud Professor Kim for standing for what is right and, as a medievalist of colour, fully agree and support her stance against white supremacist/racist/fundamentalist interpretations of the Middle Ages. That Fulton Brown used her privileged position as a tenured professor to attack a junior scholar is morally reprehensible and utterly unprofessional.

As a full professor with white settler roots, I find it appalling that another female academic like myself would think it appropriate to attack a junior colleague of colour in this way. Or to defend her own white-imperialist past in this way.

I have watched this unfold from its inception, with Dr. Brown publicly showing photos of Dr. Kim to 700+ followers and links to Milo Y, with his million+ followers, who then called Dr. Kim a fake scholar.
It's been astonishing to see a tenured professor go after an untenured one this way, and relentlessly.
I hope Dr Kim is okay and that you'll support her in whatever ways she requires.

Seems that Brown has earned at least some raised eyebrows by the faculty at the University of Chicago in regards both to her attack and manner of that attack.
