It is dreadful that our young people have no protection from this danger in the centre of York . The city centre establishments who make their profits from serving alcohol to already intoxicated customers should contribute to the costs of riverside safety.

I am a YSJ student in my 2nd year and already I have heard so much tragedy regarding the river. It's devastating when it's someone who goes to the same Uni or lives in the town so I cannot imagine what it must be like to be a friend or relative to someone who has lost their life in the river(s). I hope something gets done about it before it costs someone else their life!

My son Kristien Daniels died in the river foss after a night out in town a open verdict.I think more should be done some kind of neighbourhood scheme where volunteers walk around at night helping any one who maybe at risk. Cause a cctv camera only helps after its to late.We can't stop people having fun but with some sort of scheme we can make sure they get home safely.
