A simple, yet well overdue solution that could save lives. The local council and universities should be empowered to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and night hiking alone.

safety been the operative word, so many drinking establishments around the river, and so many dark areas, close the river routes off at the evenings, and have some sort of monitored patrol present, york is a beautiful city and to think in such a short space of time such horrendous things have happened, our thoughts are with the young girls family whom has jus been found, and wish for a positive outcome for the young man whom is currently missing, take care all, and if in a group be vigilant of your freinds and others whereabouts.

I think that cameras are a good idea but getting railings or a segmentation from the walk ways to the river would reduce the risk of fatalities such as Megan from happening.

CCTV should have been put all along the river areas years ago. How many more people have to die before anyone will listen?

If having CCTV makes it safer for people walking by the river then I fully support this. Not necessarily in relation to only young people who have had a lot to drink. They do need to take more responsibility for themselves but sadly peer pressure can lead to some irresponsible behaviour. This will help cover dark areas should anything happen and at least give the authorities a point of reference should another tragic accident happen. Those people who think it is clever to deliberately jump in the river, however and put themselves in danger should be ashamed of themselves. The likes of Megan and Ben were tragic accidents and should never be diminished by someone else being irresponsible on purpose.
