Install Traffic Light/Signal at Hayes and Octavia, Hayes Valley, San Francisco, CA
Hello Everyone,
Thank you for your time and consideration. I am writing to express my deepest concerns for the safety of animals and humans at the intersection of Hayes and Octavia, Hayes Valley, San Francisco, CA.
I am requesting that a traffic light/signal be placed and installed at this intersection as soon as possible.
Below is a very sad example of the loss of life of a two years of age puppy. It is heart breaking and we can make a change by installing a traffic light/signal at this intersection to slow traffic. Let's make the change and be proactive so that another life is not lost because of a car.

Our beloved puppy was hit by a car on Hayes and Octavia around 9:20pm last night. We want to warn all the dog owners to leash their dogs at all times due to the park nearby and a lot of foot traffic plus Ubers double parked making it hard to see what car goes when. Learn from our mistakes. Those that were there we want to thank for the support. If anyone who was there wants to reach out to us, please call (323) 640-3366. We didn't get a chance to get the number of the driver, she felt very bad. If you see this message or anyone has the drivers information please put her in contact with us.

The SFMTA continues to ignore the danger at Hayes and Octavia despite the clear risk to our community. I am tired of waiting for them to act while another preventable tragedy happens on our streets.

The momentum behind this plea is finally forcing city officials to acknowledge the lethal danger at Hayes and Octavia. SFMTA can no longer pretend this intersection is safe while our community continues to suffer from their gross negligence.

Following standard guidelines of waiting for enough deaths and severe injuries to mount up before panning any traffic light is wrongheaded. MTA needs to be pro-active for safety
This idea for a traffic signal here would enable drivers to accelerate and speed for a block on Hayes to beat a red light that is next to a park. This would be far more dangerous than the current four-way stop intersection.
From: Christine Harris August 6, 2016, about 3:30 PM, Saturday “I am at Hayes and Ovtavia as I write, and I have witnessed and video taped most drivers NOT stopping at the stop sign. I witnessed an elderly person try to cross the street and no cars stopped for him. I witnessed two dogs fight, both on leash. I have over ten videos just from about 30 minutes or less proving there needs to be a stoplight here. Based on my eye witness account and just this video footage, I am more determined to help curb the lack of respect for pedestrians. :(”
This intersection has gotten more and more unsafe for pedestrians with or without pets over the last few years. I've almost gotten hit by cars several times by cars rolling through the stop signs. We need a light at that intersection!
Bambino was our puppy that was killed in the intersection. Please help make this intersection safer for everyone.

As a resident of over 30 years and an owner of two small dogs I definitely see the need for a stop light. "Rides agree" cars ignore stop sign and also parking in front of walkway and crosswalk Ramos. They also drive erratically stopping and starting whenever it suits them with little regard or observation of pedestrian and other traffic activity .
