Dear Judge Hall, if it has to come to it, please judge this case on solid evidence as the law states, as opposed to reviewing this on circumstantial evidence and witness testimony which seems to have been warped. Mr. Vernon Evans has now been in jail for three years, even though there is no specific evidence to tie him to this murder case. Previous to his incarceration, he had been a motivating figure in the lives of young adults, working as a counselor and mentor to youth helping them to better their lives. Please give him the opportunity to return to this very necessary work and continue to be the guiding light that he had become. Going to trial for a third time, especially when the prosecution has nothing of substance to present and questionable witnesses, is a waste of taxpayer time and money and lessens the time that this innocent man has to contribute positive things to his community. If true justice is to be served, please use a fair and impartial ruling and exonerate Mr. Vernon Evans and set him free.

Dear Judge, Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts concerning the young man, Vernon Evans, who is to appear before you. Vernon had been in the employ of my brother for four years and has come to be considered as a family member. He has come to mean a lot to all of us. He is a responsible, very hardworking, intelligent, warm, funny and caring young man, who has always taken responsibility for his past offense. Vernon has gone against most odds and completed his AA degree and then was awarded his BA degree from UCLA with hopes of continuing on for his Masters. Vernon has told me he wants to become a role model for young African American men and become a History Professor. I have warned him the pay will not be that good at first if he pursues education as a profession. He felt it was more important to give back than to worry about the financial rewards. Your Honor, I am neither easily impressed, nor easily fooled and I have watched this young man for quite awhile. I am impressed with him on many levels. Not too many young men take responsibility for their actions and then even fewer go on to do so much with their time and make so much of their lives. I can not see how incarcerating a bright, responsible young man would help society or have any kind of positive outcome. Vernon is well on his way to becoming a valuable member of our society and our community, as he has already proven in our family circle. I have come to admire him greatly. I hope there is another alternative to his sentencing besides incarceration. With much appreciation of your time. Thank you, Deborah Hirsch

From what I have seen of Vernon as an inmate, he should be given the benefit of the doubt so he came be the productive citizen in our society. We as a society cannot afford to throw away individuals based on faulty or possibly unreliable testimony.
