Information Request for Changes to Mountain Meadows Care Services

My daughter, currently at Junior Citizens Childcare, must complete her preschool program at JCC, to be able to attend school next year. The interruption of this program will have significant consequences on her mother's already overburdened schedule: a housewife mother of four children. I hence join the cosignees in signing this petition. Please reconsider. Thank you.

I am in the same situation

How will the parents find available daycare spaces with such short notice in a time where daycare is so hard to come by? What support will sd43 provide to the parents and children who are affected by this decision?

More care service is needed, not less, SD 43 needs to figure out a way to keep Jccc

I have friends with 2 kids who will be affected. I hope the school can find a solution. Finding good childcare is incredibly hard. So much stress when you have it and find it will be taken away!! :(

We support JCC as a long standing member in the community and have been fortunate to have our two children cared for since 2010. The impact of the supreme court decision and subsequent implementation will have significant consequences for many working families in the lower mainland. At difficult times such as this, open clear communication between all stakeholders is critical to finding long term viable solutions.

We need care, not less

This is not an acceptable way to do business let alone care for children. The SD43 employees and representatives should be ashamed of themselves.

This must not be allowed to happen to JCCC when the needs of the children and families are very present.

There has to be a more fair and transparent solution. I call on the district to meet with parents and caregivers affected by this decision to find this solution.

We support JCCC

Parents need more time to find suitable care for their children.

This is way too short notification for us. How can this decision, which will impact us greatly, be made now when arrangements have been in place for after school care since January. If we knew of this issue we could have gone somewhere else. We now have to go looking for alternative care for our daughter but all other child care centers are full, we don’t have an option of family close by, we really, really need this service. This decision seems to have been taken without regard for families like us where both of us have to work to support our family. No family wants to be in a position where we have to use before and after school care, but we both work standard work hours so we depend on these services.

We are currently in Mountain Meadows. If we lose our space we dont have anyone to look after our daughter as our family and friends all work too. Why could this decision not be made earlier in the year before all the spaces at other after school programs filled up. At least give a year to find another place. Mountain Meadows is such a small school that the only options for after school care is in the school itself

Should remain daycare

The common word that has been thrown around in the newletters and emails is that Mountain Meadows is a community and we are part of that community. Yet a decision such as this that would affect the lives of the children and famillies of this community were not even communicated to us. It’s shocking and so upsetting. We have 2 children at JCCC, one in the preschool program and the other in the Out of School care and the fact that they are together gives us great comfort and relief as I’m sure the other parents in our situation feel the same way. The kids have spent so much time at JCCC that the centre is truly an extension of our family. I cannot comprehend how a decision like this was somehow made by the school/principal/sd43 without even the community involvment and I’ve read every mid-week and weekly email sent from the school. Not once have I seen this topic brought up. With the lack of daycare spaces available in the area…in the province even, politicians making their case about finding solutions to this problem and yet here we are sd43/Mountain Meadows adding to the problem and not being part of the solution…baffling. JCCC provides care that is so hard to find…infant care right through to school aged children all under one umbrella and instead of supporting the program, they are choosing to cut it.

Having a child at CKC, I would like to see a win/win come out of this rather than focusing on who is getting what room for what reasons because one daycare has been there longer. It makes sense that JCC would continue with their before/after care as the priority over infant/toddler care. T0 my knowledge, this is Shalimar's decision to choose to close her before/after care and keep her infant/toddler care (as per messaging from the School Board). This doesn't seem right to the kids in the community that require before/after care as it's a lot harder to find than infant/toddler care.

We have two grandchildren who attend the daycare facilities at Mountain Meadows, and have for the past two years. Our son and his wife both work, and must do so in order to support their large mortgage and living costs in the area. The Supreme Court Decision appears to have been made with little thought for the consequences on the families who rely on their being a safe environment for their children while they are working. It appears that the only beneficiaries of this decision are going to be the Teachers and their Union. It could be argued, I suppose that reducing class sizes will improve the quality of education, but additional elementary school teaching staff will need to be hired at very good salaries, along with their rich benefits at additional cost to Government and our tax dollars. The matter should be re-thought thoroughly and both parents and school administration should be at the table for discussions, along with local and Provincial Government representation.
