I gave up hunting with shotguns because muzzleloaders were far more accurate and had longer range capability. Now they have opened up to 460SW so I put a new barrel on my TC Encore and have 250 yard capabilities. I now don't see a reason why rifles of typical medium-large game sizes aren't allowed. Regardless you can shoot a 450 Bushmaster or a 460SW and get near 30-06 capabilities. It just costs a lot to do it. Open it up to rifles so everyone can afford it and make more ethical shots. Tired of hearing guys bang away with shotguns when a bolt action is slower, rounds bounce less, and are far more accurate.

I don't get it. I am forced to do hours of research and once I find a gun that I can modify to meet Indiana specs I have to spend unnecessary dollars to come up to the unrealistic standards to hunt with a rifle in Indiana. All the while I have a 30-30 in my gun locker that is not allowed. 30[-30's have killed countless deer and are probably one of the safest firearms for white tailed deer. Accurate, medium range and less destructive to the meat than a .460 S&W, a 12ga slug, 50 cal. muzzleloader or a modified 45-70. I have personally spent unnecessary dollars to modify a 45-70 to satisfy the Indiana laws in order to get a rifle that is legal in Indiana. My best pattern at the range is 4". A 30-30 on the other hand is accurate to within 1" patterns at 100 yards. the expense is another thing. I have had to have my loads custom made at more than $2.00 a round. If Indiana wants people to hunt then the acceptable caliber of rifle needs to be such that .30 caliber is acceptable.

The 30/30 has taken more deer in this country than any other rifle. I have hunted deer in many states, and this is my rifle of choice. It is the perfect brush gun. Indiana needs to Join the 21st century !! Wasn't there a similar debate on crossbows -Hummmm ??

I don't understand why the 45-70 is not allowed, its the same size as the 450 Bushmaster, which is allowed.

I have dropped coyotes @150 yds with my AR 15, so I'm well able to drop a buck @ 100 yards with the same firearm. The laws in indiana are past due to change and be brought up too the laws of Michigan, Ohio, and other states that allow those types of firearms for deer huntin . Indiana is so backwards and behind the times.

I believe bullet diameter should be .308 to .458. This gives Indiana deer hunters options from 300 black out to 450 marlin. Magnum calibers should not be allowed such as 300win mag, 300wsm,300weatherbymag,338win mag,375H&H,416rem mag,416 rigby, 416 lott or 458 win mag

It's very frustrating having to go store to store looking for a suitable rifle to use and being told that they "don't carry" that caliber or style of rifle.
