H.G. Abraham Mar Stephanos Metropolitan has played a valuable role in my Orthodox upbringing and I believe he is the ideal bishop to take our diocese forward and help it grow.
The youngsters of our church require a role model that can inspire and bring us closer to our Lord Jesus Christ. Stephanos Thirumeni is the ideal person for this.
In our diocese we have many youngsters that were born and brought up in the UK however they have now chosen to leave our Orthodox Church as their spiritual needs are not being met. There are also many youngsters who have come from India with a strong Orthodox upbringing but have distanced themselves from our church due to all the issues in the hierarchy of the diocese.
I truly believe someone like Stephanos Thirumeni will help to avoid this in the future. He has already experienced the challenges this diocese has to offer and is more than equipped to bring the youth together.
Also while Thirumeni was a priest at St Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church, London Brockley he organised the first ecumenical conference in the UK. Conferences like this attracted a lot of our youth members who in turn were able to strengthen their faith.
This also helped the Indian Orthodox Church have a name and reputation among other churches.
As an ex- OCYM UK youth secretary, I firmly believe His presence will bring our diocese and youth together.
