I have been on A.I.S.H. for well over a decade, possibly 2, and recieved Gov't payments related to disability for year prior to that.
What we are expected to live on is virtually a crime, particularly when you consider the consistant rise to the Cost of Living and frequent food upages.
I will gladly sign the petition for changes.
Thank you.

It would be nice to be able to put a few dollars a month into a 'Rainy Day account. After rent, cable, phone bill, groceries and medication not covered by the government there's nothing left. PS. I am suffering from NTM. Nontuberculous Mycobacteria lung disease, my lungs bleed as seen when I cough up the sputum 24 hours a day

The minimum wage in Alberta is going up to $15 in October of 2018. The basic income amount for aish recipients is equivalent to $9.22/hr based on a 40 hour work week. Albertans are being offered a better and more liveable income level that reflects the current cost of living. Meanwhile AISH income is equivalent to the cost of living in 1997.
It is discrimination and prejudice for the government of Alberta to expect people who are unable to support themselves and who have met the criteria for the aish program having proven a severe handicap to struggle financially while working albertans are offered a better minimum wage. The basic amount barely covers groceries and rent for any single person when the cost of rent for a single Albertan is averaging $900/month. Such small income leaves little room for any other expenses including transportation, groceries, and other amenities. What we are seeing is wage discrimination and it is time for Alberta to treat disabled albertans as equal members of society. We are not worthless and our income should reflect the cost of living.

AISH went up from the $1088 to the $1588, after a few years of me being on it. Unfortunately, so did rents, prices for food, necessities, etc, People may say we shouldn't need money because we don't do anything, or may do less. Believe me, this is not by choice. I'm sure all of us would trade whatever it is that disables us for lives with less limitations, be they physical, mental or both. I was once told I was "lucky," to receive AISH for my chronic pain/mental issues because I "don't have to work,"...I was shocked and offended. I would give up "all this," (my AISH income/no work) to have even just a few less obstructions. We are already limited physically and/or mentally and on top of that, severely limited in funds, which, speaking for myself, makes my life that much sadder. But this is not a pity-party. We merely want to be able to live a decent quality of life

Aish cheques certainly need to go up as the cost of living increases.

Find it hard to get into a decent place to live at the present income. By the way it's so hard to get in touch with my worker. I just started receiving benefits. Grateful for that. Does direct deposits go in at midnight tonight. Or after midnight tonight.
Have a nice day
