Cervical insufficiency, also known as Incompetent cervix, is a rare condition that affects close to one percent of all pregnancies. The condition causes the cervix to dilate prematurely and, many times, painlessly and without warning. Unfortunately, this results in the loss of many pregnancies before the baby is capable of living outside the womb. Even babies birthed from 24 weeks gestation and later will require extensive NICU stays.
Many people have never heard of cervical incompetence. I had not heard of it until I fell victim to the condition and lost my firstborn daughter at 21 weeks gestation.
There are several treatment options available for incompetent cervix, but so much more work and research needs done. This is where you, the reader, can help.
By signing this petition, you are stating you wish to help raise and spread awareness for cervical incompetence and hope for future prevention methods. Every signature counts.
