Regardless of whether you agree with her, there should be no “but” after “nobody deserves rape and death threats”. And I do agree with her, because she’s said nothing transphobic. Quite the reverse. Actually reading what she wrote rather than interpreting as some sort of code is probably a good idea.

Women should be free to speak the truth. They should not be silenced because they accept biological reality. JKR said nothing that was against trans people. Women also have a right to safe private places.

JK Rowling is a fine example of a woman refusing to be silenced - we owe her so much to continuing to speak out despite the horrific abuse. Her wealth doesn't protect her from the abuse, but it has given her a platform and I am grateful she is using it.

JK Rowling stood up and importantly remained standing even when an online mob arrived to try and make her sit back down. She provided inspiration to other women in doing this and brought much needed attention to the issue. She has always been respectful and compassionate in her writing on the issue. I therefore am very pleased to stand with her.
