It's an expensive eyesore that would disgrace Highland National Park's natural beauty.

I think the whole idea is ridiculous and the people are being sold a bill of goods that leads them down the garden path. I cannot see a benefit to such a construction in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, and no benefit to the community.

not the right location for such a large monument. I would rather see the money spent on the Vets

I very much appreciate the war veterans. However, I am getting tired of seeing memorials every time I turn around. One would think the US and Canada were trying to glorify war. Let's keep our national parks clean and natural.

The process by which this proposal is being blessed in back rooms is quite disturbing. I've got nothing against a memorial, but why in the Park? Put it on top of the ski hill and the millions of vets who want to teach their children about war can take the lifts up all year round. Oh, and by the way: "Mother Canada"? What's that supposed to mean?

I'm all for supporting our troops but this money could be much better used for helping those with PTSD or other helpful acts.

Green Cove is my favourite stop along the Cabot Trail, the rock formations are simply magical. Any man-made alterations to that site would be destroy its magical natural beauty.

Build the monument in a community where it will stand out without detracting from the surroundings.

Enough with war. How about something cohesive and meaningful? Erect a children's park in the name of peace, or something else that would be useful, in a more appropriate spot. Get a grip on what is really important. There are much more pressing issues concerning veterans alone than another thumbsucking distraction.

Good idea. Terrible place to put it. Even to suggest it is a good placement is really self-important. A real slap in the face to many people who appreciate this spot for its natural beauty. I'm sure that the old one dimensional argument will be made that "these men and women made sacrifices for us...". I know that's why we built them all the other monuments. This is just wrong. Period. As for the private group... why not put that money in a trust to help out the Veterans that are being neglected by the closing of the VA offices by the Harper Government?

David P. Stephens This isn't about the amount of money wasted, it's not about war or the war dead, or veterans, and it's certainly not about creating jobs and boosting the economy down north. This is one man's narrow, self-aggrandizing quest to erect a monument to suit his wants - his personal vision - and the government of Canada - that is Harper and cronies - are more than happy to grant this man his wish at the expense of all those who cherish this tract of land for it's natural unspoiled beauty. Such is the Canada we now live in.

Please find a new location for the Never Forgotten National Memorial Foundation's monument, the people of Canada do not want it to be constructed within the boundaries of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. We were not consulted in this decision that affects one of our most precious and treasured natural properties (becuase yes, it belongs to the Canadian people, not you).

There are so many other places this would work better. Why ruin the best viewpoint on this side of the Cabot Trail. Its the whole reason for the park after all.
