Canada's National parks are something to be proud of, largely because we have avoided doing anything dumb like this thusfar.

This "monument" would be a blight on the landscape; please don't build it.

National Parks are for the public and the public should be able to decide what "monuments" stand within the boundaries of those parks!

Green Cove and other parks/wildlife habitats must be preserved in their natural state for the sake of the environment, wildlife, and people. At a time when Parks Canada has suffered unnecessarily due to the government's lack of financial support, it's an insult to the longterm preservation and to the pristine landscape of such parks for the Federal Government to support and prioritize the development of this monument, which would mar the experience and the overall wellbeing of Green Cove. Support the sustainability and natural wonder of the environment in its natural state. Stop the war monument!

This is jingoism, pure and simple and it doesn't belong on our beautiful island. We sellnoursleves short by clinging to this as economic development.

It's outrageous that this much money would be put into a military monument when it could be put to better use saving the lives of countless people who are dying in this country of ours.

This is about honouring the war machine, not the war dead. No thanks.

Cape Breton could use investment, but this is about the worst possible way you could do it.

I still think that this project is a joke every time I hear about it, but unfortunately it's not. Cape Breton doesn't need this eyesore, and the money could be much better used elsewhere to honour our veterans in more practical, useful ways.

Seconding comments by D'arcy Wilson - this proposal is embarrassing and the statue will look completely ridiculous. It reads like a bad joke. It is hard to believe that not only is this project real, it's on the verge of being built with no public input.

Terrible design, not at all in the spirit of reflection, and totally out of place. Please don't build this.

Please do not build this massive "monument", it screams power-hungry desperation rather than a thoughtful peaceful monument to fallen soilders. It will also forever change the landscape of the Cape Breton coast, one of which is the areas great economic generators. Please consult the community, not private stakeholders! And for goodness sake some intellegent artists, architects, engineers and gallery directors who will tell you that this is an incredibly a. outdated design and b. ugly and c. embarrassing. These folks are experts in their field. There a great more monuments that are both ethical to the landscape, and appropriate to fallen soilders that evoke true emotion rather than this. It would also be way more original, than another "statue of liberty". As an artist, arts administrator, and Nova Scotian, this is just too terrible of an idea, I couldn't believe it was real!

If there must be a memorial in this beautiful spot, where is the national call for artists to submit designs? Why is it the vision of a wealthy individual who is NOT an expert in this field? As a visual artist and art educator, I find this ignorance shocking and inexcusable at the federal level— this monument looks ridiculous. All this aside, I love this area of the park, and to mar it with an absurd towering Virgin Mary-like figure, is deplorable— a real embarrassment for our nation's cultural reputation, and an insult to those lives lost it supposedly honors. It is also a sexist design (women are major players in our armed forces— they do not merely perch on rocky outcrops with arms outstretched) and it unnecessarily prescribes a gender to our country. "Never Forgotten" is not the memorial that the Cape Breton Highlands wants to increase visitation—I am confident that it will damage the reputation of the park at home and abroad.

I agree that this has no place in the Park. It is opposite to the experience that Green Cove now provides to visitors.

This ugly and does little to enhance the beauty of the park. I am ex Navy WW 2 and certainly does nothing for me.
