Such a maudlin display should not be erected on public land anywhere, let alone Green Cove. At the Cap Rouge lookoff on the western side of the park there is an unobtrusive but dignified veterans’ monument; its eloquent inscription speaks every bit as powerfully as a towering statue. Negligible residual environmental effects, eh? Yet, if someone were to paint their name on those rocks they would be charged under the National Parks Act. As for a visitor attraction, it would rank right up there with the image of Christ on the wall at Bras D’Or Tim Horton’s. Green Cove can stand on its own as a visitor attraction; that lily doesn’t need gilding.

I wrote a very long comment to the DIA covering many of the reasons I disagree with this monument. It is wrong on so many levels I can't begin to count.

The only thing that will be 'not forgotten' is how ugly and kitschy this monument is, and how inappropriate the location.

This monument is a terrible idea and has no place in this national park.

We should be supporting veterans, not building tacky monstrosities on fragile natural sites.

Hideous and disgusting monument to be put in such a beautiful location. It doesn't honour anyone except the corporations. The National Park should be kept clean and pristine.

I feel an impact is needed before proceeding with this study.

This hideously comic statue is neither a monument nor art . 25 million would go a long way for maintaining existing Parks Canada sites and much needed rangers. This figure is mother to no one and does not honor Canada's fallen but makes a mockery, a cheap side show in a place that is not for memorials. please rethink this foolish ploy to fund Tory supporters.
