My fear is that this statue's presence in the national park will change visitors' perception of the park forever, and for the worse. I have no problem with remembering veterans, but the national park is not the place to do it. Further, if this is to built on public land... ANY public land... the design should be chosen by a neutral committee, not by a single private corporation.

Senior park staff have pointed out this proposal is in serious contradiction to the values supposedly upheld by Parks Canada. It is a disgrace and must not go ahead!~

very tacky. looks like they are trying to copy Brazil or something. Terrible idea. Canada is a destination for its beauty, a statue isn't going to double tourism figures...

Monuments should come from open competitions and public consultation. No one wants this.

This monument will be an eyesore in the park and is an embarrassment.

No Statue! Not appropriate and a waste of money.

This is a huge waste of tax-payers money. Even if it wasn't there must be a more appropriate place for such a monsterous spectical.

I'm not even sure how this represents fallen soldiers. And why is it a woman - are fathers not as deeply impacted at losing their sons and in some cases daughters? And mostly for me personally, why does she have to look like the virgin Mary with her hair covered? I find that the most disturbing - it certainly doesn't speak for all Canadians in the year 2015. Move it to another public site and uncover her hair - in fact just make her a giant wind swept pine tree with outstretched limbs!

This is insulting to both the veterans and the country and resources they sacrificed to protect. It has no place in a National Park, or in Canada at all for that matter. I am disgusted by this plan.

how can this be fitting for a national park? a park that is created to protect environmental and ecological integrity in a time in our country where conservation is of the utmost importance...and you want to build a cumbersome, ugly statue smack in the middle of an environmentally sensitive area? Sadly, I smell Harper's hand in this, the world's worst climate villain this world has ever seen.

Hideous blot on this beautiful landscape. Why not dedicate efforts to helping those who have returned from war broken and their families? That would be a worthy memorial!

National Parks are not the place for private monuments. When, after significant public consultation and debate within the House of Commons, a decision is made to build a public monument funded by the federal government, that might be okay, but privately funded, private interest groups should not be able to place monuments on public property, in national parks, or, in another case under discussion now, in front of the Supreme Court. Public spaces are for publicly funded, publicly debated and approved buildings and monuments.

This PRIVATE monument does not belong in a PUBLIC Park. Perhaps the best place for such a monument would be somewhere along the Halifax Harbour since this is where our troops left to go overseas. If this is not an appropriate place, then perhaps on the front lawn of the individual who came up with such a monstrosity.
