Maybe in the PM's front yard and I mean his personal one, not the one he is in on short term.

It is a spectacle and not worthy of those fallen. People will gawk at the size, buy an ice cream and drive away. If indeed this is the last piece of Canada soldiers passed on their way to Europe, then a commemorative plaque could be installed, and those hiking could reflect in quiet, not a 300 car parking lot.

Aside from the misbegotten idea for this monument to somebody's ego, this statue is ugly, kitschy, and reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty (and not in a good way). It's an embarrasment.

The best way to memorialize war and honour those who have given their lives is to leave our beautiful country in its beautiful natural state. No monstrous manmade shrines to war please.

Honoring our veterans is important, and such a memorial should evoke empathy, calm, and solemn reflection from its viewers. But this proposal does none of that - it reads as dated, postured and devoid of serenity. It turns attention on itself rather than directing it to our veterans, and as such it does nothing to honor them.

All this for the cost of 2 or 3 seasonal clerical jobs in a giftshop, are you kidding me? Meanwhile at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, (already in existence in Cape Breton and and formerly a reliable source of summer employment for many students), staffing and hours were reduced this year, as they were at many National Parks and Historic Sites.
As a former operator of an outdoor adventure company in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, here is what 7 years of experience taught me about tourism in Cape Breton:
The majority of tourists to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park are from the USA. They come to CB when the economy in the USA is good, the dollar exchange rate is favorable, the cost of gas reasonable.
I, like many other tourism businesses, went out of business when the North American economy tanked in recent years and the USA tourists stopped coming.
They will be back when and if economic conditions improve.
But they will be back to see our beautiful coastline, moose, whales, camping and hiking trails. But not specifically to see some 30 m Mother Monstrosity Seagull Pooping Station Statue, (piece of Disneyfied shlock), that need not be in a NATIONAL PARK.,

This is just wrong on so many levels. Esthetics /inappropriate/ intrusive. Has to be a better way to honor our veterans. ForGod's sake give them tangible support.

This is a poor use of money for veterans, ruins its surroundings, and is a tacky, outmoded approach to art. If built, I would avoid this stretch of the trail if at all possible.

For so many reasons... beyond count.
