The Honorable Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
Paris Whitney Hilton is an American who has achieved a measure of fame by dint of seeming famous. She is an heiress to a share of the Hilton Hotel fortune, as well as to the real estate fortune of her father Richard Hilton. It has been said that she provides beauty and excitement to those who lack such things in their own lives. From this sentiment we surmise that those individuals would be forced to find beauty and excitement for themselves if they could not live vicariously through Hilton\'s shenanigans, so we are not sure that is a good thing.
She is also famous for being in homemade videos of a decidedly sexual nature, strenuous claims of businesswomanness, and having her personal digital assistant account hacked.
As most of America now knows, Ms. Hilton was just charged in a Los Angeles court with DUI and sentenced to 45 days in Century Regional Detention Facility in California beginning on or before June 5, 2007. During the proceedings, it is claimed by the prosecution that Paris\' license to drive was suspended following a reckless driving conviction of an alcohol-related nature in 2006.
It was also stated that Paris has been pulled over multiple times in 2007, and that Paris has been told by uniformed law enforcement personnel on multiple occasions that she is not to be driving with a suspended license. Would that the rest of us were so gently treated by the forces of law and order.
We, the American public, are shocked, dismayed and appalled by how Paris continually refuses to take responsibility for her own actions. She claims that her publicist told her that she could drive, despite her being told quite clearly on more than one occasion by law enforcement personnel that this was not the case. She claims that she is too busy to read everything she signs. We would recommend time management classes for Ms. Hilton as a possible alternative to signing documents the contents of which she has no personal knowledge.
We also support consistent and reasonable punishment for other celebrity DUI.
This petition is to ask Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to avoid pardoning Paris Hilton for her mistake. Please allow her to serve her prison sentence with a minimum of delay, so that she may afterward return to her career and life with newfound wisdom and enlightenment. Everyone makes mistakes, and in these cases justice should be done to ensure that irresponsibility has a price associated with it.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT to inter Paris at the Century Regional Detention Facility! Please sign to tell The Honorable Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of the State of California, to think about the character of this young woman who has made a mortal error and, following service of reasonable prison time, deserves a second chance like so many others in our great nation have been served with after a mistake they have made. We hope and expect The Governor will understand and grant this unusual but important request in good faith to Ms. Paris Whitney Hilton.
The messages I receive from people across the country leave me exhausted but entirely unwilling to walk away. This fight is repetitive and draining yet the lack of accountability from those in power keeps me at my desk every single night.
May 8, 2007
The momentum behind this is growing and it confirms that many of you are just as frustrated as I am with this blatant lack of accountability. It has been an exhausting week of watching the news cycle ignore the reality of these actions but seeing this level of engagement keeps me focused on the goal.
