Members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly : Impeach Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and City Council
To Members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly:
On April 2, 2019, six members of the Pittsburgh City Council (Council President Bruce Kraus and Councilmembers O'Connor, Stassburger, Lavelle, Gross, and Burgess) voted to pass three illegal gun control ordinances in violation of the Pennsylvania state preemption law and Article 1, Section 21 of the PA State Constitution.
On April 9, 2019, Mayor William Peduto signed all three of the ordinances into law.
As a citizen of this Commonwealth, I am outraged. The Pittsburgh Mayor and six members of City Council willfully and knowingly violated Article 1, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania State Constitution and Title 18 §6120 (preemption). They ignored warnings from Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala that their ordinances were illegal, publicly defying the warnings and passing the ordinances anyway. Moreover, these actions are criminal as they deprive citizens of their Constitutional rights.
I urge you as a member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly to impeach Mayor Peduto and the six members of the City Council who voted to violate our Constitution and laws. I will be monitoring what happens to this petition very closely.
