Why don't we invest in our public schools instead of forcing them to share their already limited resources with charter schools that are not regulated?

I live in the neighborhood right next to the charter schools. Not saying that they're to blame, but my family (including myself) has had our car stolen three times within a year. Plus there's a lot of crime going on on both directions of my neighborhood
