You can have charter school, but not here at IHS. We have our own problem that need to be taking care of first. Like increase police on campus.

As a former student of a charter school, I completly disagree adding or sharing with Independence.Charter schools don't work. If students continue to misbehave and ignore Independence faculty members why even bother sharing a campus they don't respect.

We have live in this neighborhood for the past 24 years, and recently our neighborhood got robbed by the charter students because they left their jackets behind. They robbed our neighborhood between 11am-2pm. They target olderly, Asian & working class. We have three children that attended IHS, two graduated and one still there. It is so busy at IHS, and no police around to protect the students. Kids are doing drugs all over. It is not safe anymore.

The future failures of students and staffs to meet national and state standards to be excel in their professions can not be placed on the shoulders of the students or staff, but instead must be fully placed in the shoulders of the board of trustees and the Superintendent of the district. The situation will deteriorate and the full responsibility of this consequence must be placed on the board and superintendent's shoulder due to their short-term vision on how to deal with these Charter schools , resulting in placing the long-term health of the staff and school in critical harm.

Above all our main priority should be fostering a learning environment for all students. Over crowded schools jeopardizes the quality of education for all students and schools involved

As a freshmen, I'm looking forward to a great four years of high school. Looking at this problem makes me feel uncertain of that. Not only are the charter kids taking up our school facilities, but they are very disrespectful to us Sixers. I feel that they are in a more comfortable environment than us, despite not having their own facilities, but because they come and go with our property. They trash it and have no respect for us, making us worry for keeping our school safe and a learnable environment.
Hope you listen to what we have to say and resolve this situation. Thank you.

As former alumni of class 2010, Independence started as a school to be scared to go to and completely turned my views around upon the end of my school years there. I would hate to see it go down hill again with violence caused by a crowded school.

Although I don't attend this school anymore, I have just recently graduated last year and had many different experiences with students from the other charter schools. From what I can remember from last year, having two other charter schools sharing our campus was quite a nuisance. When I used to walk to my classes at K building, a few groups of the charter school students would cat call me or one of my friends. They would also be on lunch break at the time we walk to class and their soccer balls or footballs would always hit against our classroom wall or even hit one of us as we walk to class or the bathroom. One time I used the bathroom during class and a few of the charter school girls were ditching their classes and gossiping and smoking in the bathroom. And even after school when my club would be practicing at memorial grove, many of the charter school boys would sit and stay after class to just watch us or cat call at us. I don't see why we have to share our campus with a type of school that looks down on public education in the first place. Quite ironic and against their own moral views. Also, it's sad to see our G building being repainted white for the use of other schools. When I was a freshman, I used to enjoy walking to my art class and seeing how colorful and pretty the murals were from the students of previous years. All of their hard work is being repainted over, and the history is gone.
