Impact of Independence HS sharing with 3 Charter Schools

Please think about us first! We need to provide for the safety and well being of our own students. Why should we allow charters to add stress to the facilities we need? What is the rationale for that?

This hella dumb, Indy should first look at themselves first .

Why should we as students of Independence give up our facilities to charter schools who don't even appreciate that we loose our school to help theirs. Now the school board wants to add another charter school to an already impacted campus. How do we call ourselves Independence Highschool when we are stuck with these unappreciative, stuck up, charter students who believe themselves higher than us, disrupting classes by walking in the middle of a period, kicking our I dance students out of their practice session to have a rally. These are the few examples what the charter school do on our campus, and we as students of Independence have sat silent for too long and endured with it, now we stand up to these charter schools and the proposition to add another to say stop, we've had enough and we will rebel and petition and fight for our school back. If the members of the school board were in our situation they would do the same, but they are not, so they believe it is it's okay to do what they want. Let me ask you board of education, how would you feel if someone forced their way into your home, because that's how the students at Independence feel of their campus, a place where they have built 4 years of their life too. We will show you that we are not as passive as you ought and we will continue our petition and rebellion until you have met compliance to our needs and wants.

I think they just make the reputation of the already "bad" school even worse.

I went to this HS prior to it being even more infiltrated with students from Charter Schools. While not opposed to Charter Schools, they need to find an independent location since their rules and regulations differ from the public school.

Tired and sick of having to avoid these undisciplined students who act as if they are entitled to all our resources. As a female student, I have a RIGHT to clean, maintained bathrooms without male charter school students drinking beer and smoking who knows what with their friends inside the GIRL'S bathroom. In class, I can hear the charter school students and teachers screaming obscenities, tussling around, and destroying the area they are allowed and the IHS commons. Each year, I tell my parents to support raising taxes for the district, but seeing how little they care for the welfare and education of IHS students, I won't be doing so anymore. I am so disappointed with the administration's neglect of their TRUE students' academic and environmental welfare. I will graduate this year but I am concerned for my sisters who are and will attend independence. They don't deserve to have INDY's resources snatched away by a bunch of disrespectful ignominies who don't deserve to live on this planet, much less take over and leech on independence. (Note: this problem was not present when I came to independence in 2012 with only Pegasus and Kipp). To have to come to this situation is absolutely disgusting, and the district should feel shameful for taking away what is rightfully ours and still freely giving away our reputation, safety, and quality of education.

As a former alumni I'm disappointed to hear about the impact these charter schools are making on IHS.

I've seen these people trash our bathrooms, environment, and classes. As vice president of environmental club, I take part being responsible for our school's campus. The litter we have to pick up after these charter schools is disappointing especially if it is not our own. Please stop this, stop overpopulating our school in order to keep our campus the was it used to be.

It seems a though Independence H.S. has changed for the worse since I graduated in 96. I thought it was bad then, I didn't think it could be worse. Something needs to change....for the good. Our children's safety should always be put first.

I agree, the bathrooms at B villa are disgusting. Always smelling like marijuana or urine, which not only brothers me, but many others.

As a former graduate of independence high school, I know from personal experience how understaffed the school is just from a square footage standpoint. Because of its large campus, it is hard to keep a safe environment and identify potential hazards. As a former police officer that served as a liaison to community schools in San Jose as on-site campus security, I am fully aware of the distractions that independence high schools pose to charter schools that require a more strict environment to be successful and productive

B-villa bathrooms are always full of ace kids it feels uncomfortable

These are serious issues that need to be addressed immediately. The failure to provide a safe campus and address the over crowded facility reflect poor management. All parties need to come together and work out solutions.

Get the charter schools OUT of IHS.
