Impact of Independence HS sharing with 3 Charter Schools

DCP is taking up our time, space, and facilities, they're also a big disruption during class periods and always trashing and smoking in our restrooms.

I went here. There were so many students that not everything can be helped. Fights everyday that you didn't know about. Less students so faculty can pay better attention.

Charter schools are only suppose to be using facilities that are not in use.

I agree with these statements as I have 2 kids attending Independence High school

as a student athlete, we need the gym more than the charter schools. it's our schools gym/field and we should be first priority

Honestly, I don't think that these undisciplined spoiled brats should be able to ruin our resources because they feel like it.

I'm so fortunate that my high school doesn't have to deal with what you guys have to go through. Hope you guys get the 5,000 petition sigs you guys deserve!

I attended IHS during the time of Mike Gibeau - always felt safe & within conditions to excel - so sad that unsafe is the first adjective students and faculty feel when thinking about their current experience.

It's too crowded

I've graduated from Independence and these problems are very much real. If charter schools are to share our campus, they need to take some sort of responsibility of our facilities because it is theirs as well. Often times, they are very disrespectful to in class that are still in session. The lack of staff/police to regulate and enforce rules as well as punishment for unruly behavior only helps facilitate these behaviors. School is a place for learning; not a daycare for children who could care less. Do not take away the quality education our campus as a whole can provide because we deserve it. In discouraging circumstances; some will give up on any pursuit for education.

This is the only school I've heard of that has so many charter schools to share the space, and there just isn't enough. Yes, Independence is a large campus compared to others, but three charter schools is just too much. Surely IHS isn't the only place available for them? I've heard people talk about how there's space up by the district office, or that maybe another school could accommodate one or two of the charter schools here, but something has to happen, because there are complaints, and the thing is, we don't have much room for ourselves either. There are plans to take G and some other buildings to house the charter schools, but that takes away a lot of classes that we love, such as various art and science ones, and it's worrying about where they can be housed. Even if we find alternative rooms for the displaced classes, they may be too small or not ideal for the subject. Not only that, but all three charter schools, as well as IHS are expecting many new students in the following years. If we distribute out all the classrooms, then that takes away needed the potential for growth, because now it isn't just one school anticipating new students, but four, and if the numbers increase, all four schools face being overcrowded, not to mention there are already complaints about class sizes being larger than they should. Extracurricular activities are already taking it's toll, as many people have heard. Each school has multiple sports, and each sport multiple teams. There isn't enough time or space for everyone, and our athletes have had to go to other schools to practice. Why is this the case when they're a team of IHS and are unable to practice at their own school? Why don't the charter schools find their own practice sites that don't interfere with the practices of the team whose school they're using? One "long term solution" I've heard is that lights will be installed on the fields, allowing athletes to practice later, but that is no solution. We already ha

This is indepence high school not independence charter school thats why they build this school for independence high school and not for others schools to come out of no where they need to build there school in an other place so we wont have to share anything with other schools
