I never went to the school. Though I knew Burgess through my brothers who played water polo and had Burgess as their coach. I witnessed tournaments and some practices and seeing Burgess on the pool deck.

No one deserves to have their reputation slandered with no evidence! Coaching is the toughest job in the world and in the U.S. You are innocent until proven guilty.

Randy has been a inspiring mentor to myself and hundreds of young men and women during critical periods of their youth. He did this by giving us a chance to develop the best of life skills - skills like loyalty, friendship, teamwork, and personal responsibility . The environment he provided was safe and always, almost to the level purity, about one thing - being the best person and team player you can be. It isn't easy to push your limits, but in the pursuit of this, we all got to know him as someone who cares enough to help ANYONE try. All of us that have been coached by Randy, on the pool deck, day and day out, or in cars and planes, traveling to tournaments, day in day out, had every chance to see the kind of person and teacher he is. There is no hiding your true personality on a small sports team. Everyone gets to know you well, whether you like it or not. He was nothing but dedicated and passionate about making his players the best people and sportsman they could be. Who talks about sportsmanship anymore. Sportsmanship is keeping your head up high, treating your teammates and opponents with respect - treating yourself with respect. More than the dedicated training, the hard, long hours with only excellence as the goal, these are the kinds of lessons I remember from him . And these lessons - about respecting other people, about honor, about choosing to be a good person in life that pursues success on noble terms - this is the kind of person Randy is and has always been.
Sincerely,
Brady Beaubien

I have known Randy for thirty years: ran with him, played racquetball (never could beat him), sailed together, my then wife and I were the first visitors at the birth of their daughter, as well as his major positive contribution in helping my son Jay become a man.
Rest assured, I have never seen or heard of anything like this regarding Randy nor would I expect to. Throughout the years he has been my Friend. It hurts to see government at any level abuse those who are their constituents.
Swallow your pride and please make this right.

I have known Randy Burgess for 22 years. Over that time period he has been a coach, mentor, friend and colleague. He was is the reason I was able to compete, attend and win 3 NCAA championships at UCLA. He is also a big reason I decided to become and educator myself. I will be forever grateful for the influence he has and continues to have in my life. I am fortunate to still receive his guidance, support and advice. I stand with Randy.

I played under Randy Burgess as a player and student from middle school through high school. I also know him after graduating having helped coached Coronado aquatics for a few summers and engaged with coach burgess frequently.
I found him to be a man of honor as well as a mentor and life coach to me. I never once saw anything to lead me to believe he would behave in inapporpriate sexual conduct with a minor. I don’t know anything specific about this pending issue/ case so can only speak to my decades of personal experience, in which all conduct and behavior was geared towards requiring and aspiring for the best of the kids around him.

Coach Burgess is one of the most positively influential people in my life. My sister and I were raised mostly by our amazing mother on her own. Randy was an additional strong mentor for us to learn from and look up as our water polo coach and teacher. He gave us the opportunity to fail, win, grow and work harder than we ever had before. He led us to championships and taught us how to conduct ourselves as champions when we were down.
I am outraged at how the school, that he made internationally known and respected, is treating him. He doesn't deserve any of this and my heart is broken over what is happening. Randy - if anyone can weather this horrible storm it is you! All three of us McGuire girls have your back. Love to you and your family.

I've known Coach Burgess for over 30 years and consider him one of my closest friends. We've worked together at countless camps and water polo events all over the United States.
As the former coach at the Naval Academy we were fortunate to successfully recruit well over a dozen of his Coronado student-athletes to our program, every one a successful graduate and Naval Officer. Coach Burgess epitomizes the term "role model" to me and thousands of people he has taught, coached, mentored, or worked with over the course of his distinguished career. I respectfully ask that you add my name to the many others who stand with Coach Burgess. He remains a unique treasure to the Coronado community and deserves to be vindicated and reinstated immediately. This man is incapable of serving anything other than the best interests of the young people he is entrusted with. I've seen it over 3 decades with my own eyes, and he's demonstrated the same for 34 years in your community.
Burgess is a great man
