Disgraceful. It's really poor that one of our own can be treated like this for preparing to defend our freedom. He has written a blank cheque with his life to the people of Australia and he is being treated like a criminal.

The fact officers were required to respond to prove the reports of a "weapon" were incorrect does not mean a charge is necessary. Even a cursory glance would tell someone with an ounce of weapons knowledge that what he was carrying was not a gun or even a passable replica, just a collection of scrap metal welded together to provide a simulation of the weight distribution and carrying points of a gun. If this is the standard of training our police are receiving now, how long before we have our own Tamir Rice incidents.

Do not charge an Australian soldier for taking the extra effort to help prepare himself to protect this country.

The Police have got this one wrong. By charging Nicholas they have virtually given in to what Daesh and any other organisation that would do us harm want. That is to CHANGE our way of life and live in fear. This is way bigger than just this individual case and the Judiciary and Government should really have a hard think about this one.
