Many years ago I trained for Special Forces. We faced the trial of running many miles in Greens, pack and rifle (SLR). Training was our responsibility and a great deal was done in our own time. I was disadvantaged as I could use an SLR and I didn't have the resources to make a facsimile of the correct size and weight for balance. I applaud this Digger for his dedication and determination. Were that I was much younger so that I could join him. Australia desperately needs men like him!

Public perception is guided by misinformed or sensationalist media and should not be aided nor abetted by Police or Judiciary. This should be treated as a learning opportunity for all, the response was quick and appropriate in the current state of the world and terrorism. Our state government should put an end to this absurdity.

The charges against this soldier should be dropped immediately. Training to protect this country should not be a crime.

This is very sad and breaks my heart. This guys life will have changed forever now, through no fault of his own. Guys have always trained like that, why should they have to resort to hiding within the confines of the barracks now? Think of the mental turmoil that this man will now endure for the rest of his life because the public couldn't recognise a metal pole and media sensationalising everything. These men should be looked after because they signed up to put THEIR life on the line for us, not reprimanded and mentally tortured (on top of what they already go through in the army) for training down to the last kg or gram. The world now knows this man, for all the wrong reasons and through no fault of his own. The media should issue an apology, the police a correct statement of events. I hope he doesn't regret training that day. Stay strong soldier
Shame on the justice system. Shame.
Not Aussie but a hero is a hero
This is ridiculous.
