Illegal Fireworks in San Francisco

Every night for the past 2 months I’ve been dealing with terrified pets, being woken up at all hours of the night and feeling like the cities response is to close their eyes and hope it goes away, similar to the response to the homeless avalanche that is burying the city. Exactly how much more do you think we can take?

Potrero Hill has three grass fires in the weeks leading up to the 4th. We have had to listen to loud explosions for WEEKS prior to as well as after. Kids, pets, the elderly and veterans/PTSD sufferers are TERRIFIED. Please - this HAS to not be repeated next year.

Fires, traumatizing animals and humans (a.k.a.*our neighbors*), tasking police & fire depts., sleep deprivation of working people, and coddling the fireworks bootleggers who *profit* from the disruption. Most of these profiteers don't live in CA and do not care about San Francisco quality of life. Moreover, in the 7 years I've lived here I've noted a 24/7 year-round increase in these fireworks a.k.a. bombs. Solution? Urge state lawmakers eliminate the current checkerboard county-by-county laws allowing fireworks sales and replace it with a statewide ban, excluding licensed professionals. There are multitudes of ways to celebrate holidays. It doesn't mean allowing a self-entitled minority to hold the rest of us hostage to a rampage in a fire-prone and crowded city.

I usually wake up to a wonderful array of birdcalls. But after the very loud fireworks there nights ago, the birds still haven't returned to the trees near my house. Its 5:38 now. I would ordinarily be hearing lots of birdsong. Today -- nothing.

The level of civic disturbance in the six or so weeks leading up to the worst 4th of July is intolerable. Investigate origin and distribution and put a stop to the dangerous madness. Please don't wait until next June to plan to do something.

I don't want tthe police to handle this in their racist/classist manner. Defund the police and set up local agencies who will handle these violations. And stop the sales of military explosives.

Enough is enough! Please give SFPD additional seizure powers to stop illegal fireworks in the city!

I’ve been awakened every single night for the past four weeks because some drunk jerks are obliterating fireworks in the park nearby or in front of my window setting off car alarms. This has to stop!

The origin points for these fireworks are well known and actively reported. Even a community task force would work in simply walking up to them and communicating the mental harm they are doing to everyone each night.

Veteran with ptsd, please help with the illegal fire works.

The fireworks are every night both in th Mission and Potrero Hill. They continue until the ww hours of the morning, it's been going on for too long. These are not firecrackers or bottle rockets, they are explosives. Our kid's and animals are terrified. It's a fire waiting to happen, please enforce the laws. There are days when it is acceptable, every night is not.

These are NOT the old school firecrackers that we are used to in the Mission. For the past 5 years people set off what feels like bombs outside my home at 20th and VanNess. And this year is already the worst ever....starting in mid June, blowing up outside my home from 7pm to 2am. My dog pants and paces the whole night, my kid is terrified every time the building shakes. No sleep before going to work, car alarms constantly going off. Take this seriously!! We can’t leave town for 3 weeks just because the city refuses to enforce peace and quiet!! This feels like a war zone. Get it together, SF. No other city I’ve lived in is this lazy!!

I have lived in the Mission 30 plus years. This year the fireworks started 2 months earlier than usual. Much louder, start before dark, and go at intervals through early morning. Some shake my house! I worry about fires, people with ptsd, pets, children... besides being a time when a lot of people are feeling very unsettled, on edge, myself included!

The situation is out of control, far beyond the normal 4th frequency and duration (and with a MUCH earlier start date!). The sounds we're hearing are more like bombs than the usual illegal fireworks I've had to put up with in 30+ years of living in the city. It's terrifying and dangerous for residents, property and pets and they need to be stopped.

My grandfather has post-war ptsd, my pets have been having horrible anxiety, and it keeps many of my neighbors up at night. This is a selfish form of “fun” past midnight and some of these explosions have been louder than ever, literally shaking my house. Please do something.

We've lived on the Hill since the late 70s and this is the worst they've been. Usually we hear fireworks on and around July 4, which is traditional and not a problem. We've never heard them this early or this often. This IS a problem.

On the corner of Third and Kirkwood is the epicenter of these percussion bombs that are extremely frightening.

There have been 3 grass fires in the past two weeks as a result of the fireworks. The next one we may not be so lucky.

Hearing the bomb is very disturbing and frightening.
