Iain Duncan Smith MP, the minister responsible for Work and Pensions, has come out strongly in the press in support of schemes that offer real world work experience to jobseekers. In order to give Mr Duncan Smith a more realistic insight into the practical experiences and work opportunities that these schemes can offer, it is only right that he should himself spend 2 weeks in one of these roles, living only on the monetary equivalent of Job Seekers Allowance. This should be seen as valuable experience that is necessary for his role dictating policy in this area, and may even lead to future employment should his current position be made redundant soon. This petition is to ask the UK Government to require Mr Duncan Smith to complete 2 full time weeks working unpaid, save for the equivalent of JSA, in a Poundland store of his choice before he is allowed to propose any future legislation intended to help solve issues of unemployment.
