I AGREE the rollout of technology has been unorganized, not reflective of Union Member input, and overwhelming. This has led to significant hardships for students and teachers. Furthermore, technology training provided by the district has been misleading and/or of lacking quality.

The School Board has received the initial documentation regarding our concerns about the current technology rollout. I am currently evaluating the responses provided by the district administration to determine how best to amplify our professional perspective in the coming weeks.

The momentum behind this petition confirms that many of us share the same frustrations regarding the recent technology implementation. It is clear the current situation requires a more attentive response from the School Board.

I teach special education, which means that my students come to my classroom from several different homerooms. It's very difficult to explain to an 11 year old why their classmate has a chromebook and they don't. After three months of "you'll have one soon," the kids are aggravated and so am I. I thank God every day that a parent hasn't asked me why their child doesn't have a chromebook, but other children do. It's unfair, and if I was a parent I would be upset.
Cicero District 99 has not equipped its teachers with the skills and knowledge to be successful in the technology initiative. Cicero District 99 has not informed/trained a significant percentage of parents about the transition to the technology initiative. Cicero District 99 did not offer teachers any additional time to train the students and adjust learning days as needed.
An introduction to technology and where our teaching is headed is not training in how to use the tools appropriately. Also, none of the trainings have addressed what is developmentally appropriate for our primary grade students.
It is most difficult for me because POWER SCHOOL doesn't have a HOUSE TEAM component like E-SCHOOL did. My team and I had to create an EXCEL spreadsheet just to figure out who we were supposed to teach. :-(
Chromebook were promised at the beginning of the school year but did not arrive until November. Google Certification was unclear expectations. SmartBoard "docking station" is just a cord that does not work (unreliable and finicky)

I see several members of our technology department desperately trying to salvage the transition. I applaud their efforts on our behalf.

The commercial at the board meeting ended with a slide telling us to contact one of the 5 tech providers for training. How is this possible for 1000 staff members? Training should be the same for everyone, not as requested, and should be given during the school day if we are not going to be compensated for our time outside of school. Our students deserve better!
