Yes! I Support Fiscal Responsibility & Homeowner Rights on Mercer Island

I want this council to table this vote till a new council is elected.

Keep the present code as-is until the new council is installed. This notion of "smaller is better" needs to be seriously reviewed and might well need to go to a vote of all Island residents.

I love this island, for it's green spaces and small community feel; however, development is the result of a growing community. The tear down homes of today were once the homes being built to replace the tear downs from the 1920's, 1940's, etc. I wonder how many people for these revised codes are still living in a home in original condition. Change is hard, but necessary.

I would love to see the density of the downtown center increased with more retail, restaurant, and entertainment options on the island. This is not only good for the tax base of the island but would help increase the community feel of the downtown core and reduce our environmental impact of having to leave the island for retail, restaurant, and entertainment.

No new tax increases, please. It is probably time to cut staff and tighten things up.

Please permit more density in the downtown center so that we can increase the tax base and hopefully get more shopping options.

Don't even think of restricting residential codes more than they are. That would be foolish. Punt it and reevaluate the motivation for doing this.

Do right thing for Mercer Island residents.

Do not further restrict to gain revenue. This will cause further revenue shortages.

restricting development does nothing to preserve the character of the island. Zone the island appropriately and get some folks on the code council that know what they are doing. there are ways to achieve the goals without restricting the rights of homeowners. development of the downtown core should be encouraged. Development of vacant land should be encouraged. remodeling of current housing stock in need of renovations should be encouraged.

Vote no on housing restrictions

These restrictions are crazy and bad for homeowners. Taking away property rights. This lowers our property value.

I think that the City Counsel need to evaluate the tax consequences of proposed downzone code. The City of Mercer Island should balance its budgets and avoid a tax hike because of the code changes. Jerry Zhang

This attempt at residential downzoning is misguided. It is possible to guarantee solar access, preserve significant trees and protect green spaces, ensure adequate structure separation, and limit negative impacts between neighbors without reducing property values and the long term tax base that supports the public school system that is the true jewel of the Island. The current downzone proposal is clumsy and punitive and will cause unneccesary economic damage. For every long term resident worried about paying increasing taxes, there are two residents who are counting on the appreciation of their biggest investment to fund retirement, their children's or grandchildren's college, or the dream of a new home. Let's slow down and reconsider the current proposal, and come up with a better one!

We need to take a breath and discuss how this impacts everyone involved. this has much bigger financial consequences than just slowing or changing the look of future builds etc.

It's imperative that we maintain our property values by not implementing restrictive unnecessary code legislation! Please help!!! Thank you, Natalie & Bob Malin
