Besides being overly restrictive in general, the tree regulations should be done separately. I think the tree regulations are way to imposing on private property rights.

Dear Councilmembers,
I am concerned that changes to the residential building code and tree regulations you are contemplating are overly restrictive and may reduce property values as well as preclude remodeling and redevelopment at a time when housing inventory is at an all- time low. Additionally, poor public notification and lack of access to tracking documents has made it difficult for the public to know what is being proposed.
It is very important to me that we protect island character and quality of life. I am concerned, however, that these changes will have the unintended consequences of reducing property values for many islanders and restricting an islander’s ability to remodel or redevelop their home in a manner that best suits their needs.
Island residents who have owned their homes for a long time and who are relying on their home appreciation to fund retirement may be heavily impacted by the proposed changes if the building code severely constrains options for a buyer to redevelop.
Please take a more careful and considered approach to the residential code update and separate the tree regulations from the code update.

Total lack of leadership from the city. How is it possible you are in the "red" with the overall economy booming and one of the TOP local economies in the country? Please focus on initiatives that will grow the budget instead of applying energies that will take away from it.

It's very disappointing our council is spending time on issues of this nature and eroding values of citizen's property and property rights. Focus on the budget please and the types of things that help you generate revenue so we can get our city back in the black.

This code require further evaluation and thought process before it gets put into adoption.
