I support a "Traditional" School Calendar in District 225 that doesn't start school earlier in the summer.

I'm pretty confident most kids don't study over break but going into finals rested with a full week of review is far superior to the stress of teacher fitting in new material followed immediately by a cummative final. Please think of those kids that struggle ... not the ones that are successful either way. The end of the year is Crazy stressful for many. Pleas Don't do something without concrete benefits and reasons.

There are many other potential solutions to the "problems" this change purports to address. 18 weeks of school without a real break is inappropriate for students, especially young ones. This proposed schedule does not align with other schools, summer camps and sports programs that are regional and national, summer breaks at schools where parents and other family members may work or attend, and frankly, its cold in May and warm into August/September. Families at other nearby schools and districts that have adopted this calendar do not care for it. This was not done with transparency nor in an inclusive manner.

Summer break should be in summer, when it’s hot outside (July and August). Most people that I’ve spoken to would prefer to start after Labor Day. Ridiculous to change all the kids schedules based on testing in high school.

This will eliminate our time off as a family and our summer vacation.

I would vote for a start after Labor Day!

Seems a bit ridiculous to force an entire community to change their summers to accommodate high school students. If a college schedule is necessary in high school, maybe some of the days off in the fall should be eliminated.

I'm always eager to listen to proposed changes but this was not disseminated with the public in a clear or concise way nor have the "beneficial" reasons been clearly stated. An open discussion has not been had on the topic.

My child has ESY, by starting the school year that early she would not have much of a break at all. Our weather is not conducive to being in school that early in August either.

I am against this change. Keep the school year the same, or even better, start after Labor Day.

Do NOT change the calendar. People at Stevenson hate it! There is no reason to have to start school at the beginning of August when no one does ( including colleges) Let our kids enjoy the summer like the rest of their friends!! They already start early enough. Figure something else out, without having to have them start school that early. Let them enjoy overnight camp, teen tours, and internship programs with the rest of the U.S.!!

I am astounded how this was not shared earlier with District 34 parents as it will impact us and our children in the very near future. Shame on the administration for not fully informing the entire community until the change is up for a board vote! Why can’t studebts take finals before break & be quizzed on the remaining two weeks of material after break? Why change an entire community’s calendar (which is what will eventually need to be adjusted, such as elementary schools, camps, pool, pre school) to just alter the final schedule? The pros here simply do not outweigh the cons!!!

Against the change. There is no data to support "stress reduction". Clear evidence of poor weather in June and perfect weather for summer break in August. Start after Labor Day makes complete sense.

I support starting school after Labor Day and ending later in June. If that can’t be done, please leave the calendar alone!!

I’d rather see the school year go the other way. The weather in Chicago seems to be shifting and would much prefer my children to enjoy more time outside. How about starting after Labor Day and going longer into June???

I do not want the collegiate calendar. I want the school to continue to follow the traditional calendar.

More school is not the solution. Better school is. Quality, not (always) quantity.

If you want to move it to starting AFTER Labor Day and ending at Memorial Day—-THATS MORE LIKE IT!!!!!
