I support a "Traditional" School Calendar in District 225 that doesn't start school earlier in the summer.

I do not agree with D225 starting school year earlier than the current date.

I strongly oppose starting school any earlier in August.

Start after Labor Day. Let the kids have a summer! It will also affect the singing groups with their Christmas performances. That would be sad.

Clearly there is not overwhelming support of the decision to adjust the school calendar for D225. Please consider doing more research and coordinating the calendaring efforts with D34, as Glenview families often has children attending multiple schools. Cutting summer short for part of a family seems unfair.

We should consider school starting after Labor Day, and let finals be at the end of January. Uneven semesters are also an option.

Please consider other alternatives that will allow the start date to remain in late-August (or after Labor Day) and also allow for finals to occur before Winter Break. Other districts have successfully switched to a schedule with a shorter first semester.

The school year is so stressful for our kids. They work hard and need the summer break. For these who believe in extra academics, there is summer school. We don’t need an early start to the school year. Let our kids just be kids.

An early start makes for an incredibly busy and stressful first semester. Asking students to study for finals in addition to all December activities is unreasonable. Teachers lose time from their Winter Break as they are grading final exams. Moving school calendar puts fall and spring sports out of sync with IHSA athletic schedules, and the majority of IL schools.

I vehemently oppose this, unless GBS will allow later starts due to vacation/familial obligations.

School should start after Labor Day. Boston and NYC public schools are on that schedule with extenuating circumstances and/or inclement weather that could change the calendar to extend the school year.

It will be in middle of summer, too early for kids to accept the favt that is time to study. Therefore they will be out of focus and no benefit from going early

This is ridiculous for so many reasons! Starting in the middle of August when the weather is still nice is a terrible idea. That should only happen if there is no other viable option, which certainly NOT the case. Other school districts have managed to schedule finals before winter break and not screw up family vacation time. Are they that much smarter than us? Can District 225 not figure out some reasonable alternatives? And why is this being forced through with not much info or debate? If this is really necessary tell the parents why and tell us what alternatives the board looked at and why this option the best best thing for our students education & mental well being. There clearly hasn’t been much transparency in the decision making process. Now is the time to fix that.

Starting school earlier has very little benefit and significant downside. There are other options if the purpose is to simply avoid having finals right after a break. Don’t fix one perceived problem by creating a hundred more.

An earlier start in our weather climate does not make sense. Summer begins after the Fourth of July and stays hot through the end of September. But I do like the idea of finals before winter break. Other districts in our area have altered their curriculum to accommodate a shorter first semester and I think district 225 should do the same thing

This totally eats into family vacation time. Earlier summer is filled with summer school, camps, sport activities and summer jobs. Please leave some summer for family time.

This proposal is not “collegiate.” My household, with three students, prefers the calendar stays the same or moves to a later start date.

No benefit to starting early. Very few colleges start early August so not sure where that idea comes from anyway. Schools would have to be opened, air conditioning on, hotter, kids in summer mode. In June, kids are already in school mode, air conditioning is on, it can still be cold outside. Starting in early August, kids will remain in hot, summer mode and first week or two will be a waste.
