I support a "Traditional" School Calendar in District 225 that doesn't start school earlier in the summer.

I am absolutely against pushing the start date up of school and I frankly don't understand why this is even being referred to as a "collegiate" schedule as I don't know any colleges that start this early. For 2018, University of WI starts on 9/5, Northwestern 9/27, Notre Dame 8/20, University of IL 8/27, Marquette 8/27. In a climate like ours, Summer weather doesn't start coming until mid to end of June. Students and families deserve to have a Summer break and time together to create memories. If this schedule goes through, I don't doubt that people will actually move to other areas so their children can have an actual summer. This vote should not go through and should not be made over the Summer when not everyone may not be able to be at the meeting. Have you ever thought of a start date after Labor Day and pushing back the end of the school year? The final exams need to be figured out so that the kids don't have to start school any earlier than they already are starting.

1. Both of my college students start school well AFTER August 14th. 2. My kids preferred having finals after winter break in high school. It's way too busy before winter break to add finals into the mix. They studied a little during winter break, and then in January after they came back refreshed, they were ready to study a little more and were well prepared. Much less stressful.

This is a terrible idea. Will impact summer va action plans/traditions. Summer doesn’t get warm till even July. Leave schedule alone. Kids are not in college yet.

This topic was discussed at length last year when the letter was sent to Wood Oaks parents. Based on that discussion and after consulting with many high school students, parents, and even District 225 faculty, I vote against the calendar change.

I am in favor of a later start to the school year, kids need the summer time to spend outside and with family.

Please consider that some kids are still away at summer camp week that is being contemplated to return to school - strong communications build engagement and support of School Board (not behind our backs)

I oppose starting the school year any earlier than District 30 does already--the kids shouldn't miss summer weather and needed time outdoors and with family. In fact, I am in favor of pushing the start of school back later.

Summer in Chicago does not start till middle of June, I support the idea of starting school year after labor day and taking winter finals a few weeks later.

I would like to see the EDUCATIONAL benefits and research to starting the school year earlier.

Local elementary districts follow what the high school district does. There should have been more consulting on this

I grew up in NY and like system where school starts after Labor Day. Summer is short enough as it is...

I understand the academic pressures our high schoolers are under, but let’s take a step back and evaluate different ways to deal with them. Keep summer break intact including August.

Let the kids enjoy summer - I do not support starting the school year in the middle of August. The later the better. I prefer the day after Labor Day.

The official school calendar was already issued. too late to change it now!

I'm a product of the traditional calendar and think it works perfectly. Not to mention we only get a few nice months of weather in this city and all other schools in the area are on the traditional calendar. I don't agree with any decision to move away from the traditional calendar and move to a collegiate.

Our climate does not merit starting school in mid August while it's gorgeous weather still! We should start after Labor Day like CPS and enjoy the short summers that we have. If not after Labor Day, then at least need to keep the Traditional Calendar.
