sacred heart loves to encourage diversity as long as it's not "too diverse". In actuality they want us all to be the same.

Every student has a right to self-expression. Threatening Kate with expulsion is wrong and goes against the values of a Sacred Heart education.

I attended CSH for 13 years and have sadly watched the decline of the schools authenticity and humility. Just because CSH believes in something, does not mean those beliefs should ever be forced on a student. It is sad that this is what CSH has come too but I have seen it going in this direction for many years. I stand with Planned Parenthood as I have seen it help so many people's lives. An organization that lifts women up should always be celebrated regardless of its objective. CSH its 2018, lets get real.

A sticker is in no way distracting to fellow students, and someone should be allowed to express themselves by having a sticker for planned parenthood.

Given Planned Parenthood's crucial role in serving women facing barriers to healthcare access, including people of color, people with low incomes, and people living in rural areas, I would expect CSH to applaud this young woman's demonstration of "critical consciousness" and commitment to advocacy for those "suffering from injustice" (Goal 3). Kate is doing exactly what CSH has taught her to do, as are the students and alumnae signing this petition.

People should support what they want, especially if it helps young mothers and other people’s lives

This is ridiculous. A clear violation of her right to free speech

I also do not think that an online petition is the best platform for major issues like this. But, it is unfortunately the only way for Sacred Heart students to be heard and start a needed discussion. Last year in my ethics class at Sacred Heart we had a graded debate about abortion and openly discussed our opinions on it. Why outside the classroom is a mere symbol of someone's belief condemned? Sacred Heart wants us to feel like we are individuals and they pretend to allow us to discuss our opinions, but only in a small, confined, and controlled environment with discussion lead in a one-sided persuasive manner. Meanwhile, if we dare take these opinions out into the real world or step outside their conservative box determined by these "nonnegotiable" rules written years ago by people living in different times and under different social ways, we are threatened expulsion? So yes, I stand with Kate but more importantly I stand with all the young women ages 2-19 who rely on Sacred Heart to educate and raise us in an "atmosphere of wise freedom" (goal 4).

Although this petition looks "bad" for Sacred Heart, it is bad for Sacred Heart when its administration threatens to expel someone over a sticker and compares a planned parenthood sticker to a Neo-Nazi one. For a school obsessed with image, Sacred Heart should be more respectful.

Straight from CSH's mission statement (https://www.cshgreenwich.org/page/about-us/mission--goals-and-criteria/mission): "Sacred Heart, steeped in a solid academic tradition, educates women to have independence of judgment, personal freedom, and strength of character so that they can become leaders with broad intellectual and spiritual horizons. The school welcomes students of all races, socioeconomic backgrounds, and religious beliefs. True to its international heritage, the school provides students with experiences of diversity." If CSH stand's by its mission, CSH should stand with Kate.

Absolutely absurd. No one should be denied free speech. Especially with something as minute as a sticker. Truly horrifying how gross our world is

I personally am pro-choice, yet I understand the stance of Sacred Heart, a Roman Catholic institution. Sacred Heart has a responsibility to promote the ideals of the Catholic Church, and their commitment to the church is nonnegotiable and, in my opinion, commendable. Additionally, our Constitutional rights; such as free speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of the press; are guaranteed as protection against governmental action, NOT a private institution. Therefore, Sacred Heart has EVERY right to ask a student to remove a sticker that they find promotes a topic that the Catholic Church equates to murder. Let it be known, though, that Sacred Heart encourages students to verbally speak their mind in classes about such controversial issues. I think it is also important to recognize that the administration at Sacred Heart is balancing a fine and shifting line between granting students individual rights as well as supporting their founding mission of supplying young women with a Catholic education. Lastly, these petitions do nothing but polarize the Sacred Heart community and publicize issues to the online world. They do not spark real, genuine conversation among students and administrators.

freedom of speech and expression. you don’t give up your rights when you go to private school.
