I believe this young woman should have the freedom of speech in her school that is afforded to every other citizen.

As a proid CSH alumna, this is heartbreaking. I have worked in the Bronx as a social worker for over eight years, I have firsthand experience witnessing the gaps in medical care and health education that PP provides to the less fortunate. Not all are as privileged as many Sacred Heart graduates to have private insurance and access to a variety of quality healthcare options. I am even more attuned to this issue at present, as I am expecting a baby girl in May. I know that everyone isn’t as lucky as the moms beside me sitting in the Mt. Sinai waiting room, and Planned Parenthood may be the only place to go for some to obtain affordable prenatal care. Besides, it is commonly known that abortions make up an extremely small percentage of services PP offers, and that they bring healthcare to many women and girls who would otherwise not have access. Thus, to expel a student for support of an organization that provides a variety of positive services under the guise that they are pro-abortion is not only factually untrue but myopic.

Freedom of speech, freedom of thought. Unbelievable that you would expel a top student because of a STICKER.

Roman Catholic Church doesn’t support abortion. We get it! Planned Parenthood supports women’s health. What’s the point of punishing the message of supporting women’s health?

It is imperative that Kate be allowed to express herself freely, with no fear of reprisal. Whether you believe what she believes is not the issue. To allow her a voice, isn't this the meaning of Tolerance?

What you are missing is that, regardless of your stance on abortion and the freedom to choose, and of the positives or negatives of PP, this is about a girl having FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS! This is not about whether abortion is RIGHT OR WRONG. This is about a girl being able to peaceably HAVE AN OPINION. She is not being expelled but the CSH girls rights are being diminished and, therefore, their education.

I graduated from Stuart CDS in 1988 and am proud to have been taught to be a strong, independent thinker by open-minded and generous teachers. I stand with Kate and I hope she takes her fierce convictions with her throughout her life.

Her parents pay $50k a year so that she can be taught to express her opinion and listen to opinions other than hers with grace. Why would anyone pay for a child to only be taught one point of view. Her decision to support Planned Parenthood should be honored. She did not cause a RIOT or cause destruction of public property or even introduce her opinion into the school dialogue (although as a parent, I would expect my daughter to not me told what to believe without counter points. All this kid did was have a sticker on her computer. Well let's flog her at the pole then!!!! This intolerance of other opinions is specifically NOT what I pay for. Small minds. And, at some point, regardless of your viewpoint, you need to enter the real work where not everyone agrees with you and you need to be able to adeptly provide a counterpoint. Your comment is NOT AT ALL what a CSH parent pays for but shows a lack of perception and learning.

Women are refusing to be second class citizens anymore. Sacred Heart should allow Kate freedom of speech and thought. Welcome to the new century Sacred Heart.
