I too, have this terrible disease and have had it for years, but did first get the relevant bloodtests in 2011, because I myself asked for them to be taken. The doctors in Denmark are postpone operations. It seems that they think that this disease are not that harmful, as it really is. Is it lack of Money in the system, good will or because they just dont know any better. Meanwhile people suffer and die slowly. With this disease the lenght of your life will be shortened by 5 years, if you dont get an operation. Meanwhile your quality of life is like zero. Too bad that people will have to pay huge amounts of Money to go to USA, in order to save their life. WHO do have this kind of Money. Not me.

I have it and am paying to go from Denmark to USA for operation. As Denmark has no clue of this disease.

I have had this disease for over 7yrs, I had 2 tumours removed 3yrs ago but have never recovered my health it has only deteriorated! It's important to bear in mind if you have more than 1 tumour it's probably due to an underlying genetic disorder. I don't think the article touched on this.

More thorough screening is needed in my view, this can be an extremely debilitating condition which greatly impacts the quality of life and overall wellbeing of individuals experiencing it.

I had this disease for over 11 years with no diagnosis. Short term, I was almost disabled with fatigue, insomnia, bone pain, etc and I now have osteopenia and stage 3 kidney failure. Early detection and surgery is important.

I had been feeling bad for several years. I felt like I was in a fog, I was tired, and depressed and just not myself. I also had been suffering with kidney stones for about ten years. After my wife was diagnosed with Hyperparathyroidism and had surgery to cure it, she realized I might have a problem too, especially since I had kidney stones. My own doctor saw my one normal calcium level of 9.6 and refused to test further. My wife's surgeon wrote the necessary requisition orders for me to have lab testing, and I was found to be one of the 6% who are "normocalcemic". I had a tumor on a parathyroid gland, but my body was taking the extra calcium and trying to excrete it through my kidneys, thus the kidney stones. One 20 minute outpatient surgery by Dr. James Norman, one of the best parathyroid surgeons in the world, and I am now cured!

For nearly ten years I complained to my doctors that I was constantly exhausted, my joints and bones hurt and my memory was getting terrible. I was continually told my bloodwork was normal, there was nothing wrong with me except I was getting old, and I'd better get used to it. Finally through my own online research I discovered I had Hyperparathyroidism. After having the bad parathyroid gland with the tumor on it removed, I felt like a brand new person! It is yet to be seen if the kidney damage and osteoporosis that was caused by this illness will reverse themselves.. Had the lab posted the fact that a calcium of 10.4 is NOT normal for a person over the age of 30 (I was 55) my doctor might have realized that I had a problem. Many labs list calcium levels between 8.8-10.4 as normal, but this is not true for all ages! Only teenagers and adults in their early 20's should have calcium levels in the 10's. Adults over 30 should almost never have a calcium level of 10.1 or higher. If you do, you should investigate further and probably should have a parathyroid hormone test done.

I have had this disease for years, but did not know this was my problem until about a year ago. 6 months ago I had a failed surgery. If more doctors/surgeons were better educated maybe I could have been cured then. I am going to be having another surgery next week with a much more experienced surgeon. Hopefully I will be cured this time. This disease has ruined my life for the better part of my 20's. I am ready to get my life back.
