Doctors ignore high calcium and low vitamin D levels in patients. It took 3 endocrinologists and over five (5) years of this disease for it to be taken seriously. I finally had the surgery performed by Parathyroid Center in Tampa. Our Doctors and Endocinrologists need to be more educated in HPTD to help the many people who are suffering and need to be cured.

After finding out I had Adenocarcinoma 5 years ago, but asking family doctor for a thyroid test becasuse I symptoms I was experiencing ,,my blood test came back with High PTH, High Calcium, and low vitamin D. This doctor and an endroconologist tells me I have to up my VitaminD2 50,000 IU's to get my calcium level down. Yeah, right. I did a lot of research then and found that major health problems can happen from fatigue to coma, strokes and heart attacks can happen when the Calcium level is high and the only way to remedy that is by surgery. Not taking more vitamin D or stop drinking milk. How obsurd can that be. At this time and moment , I am starting to believe that people are falsely being diagnoised as Alzheimers when it may just be parathyroid and high calcium levels causing this faulty health issue.. I knew my mother did not have Alzheimers, but rather Parathyroid instead. She had all the symptoms and never got her blood level checked., except an MRI which indicated plaque ( I say Calcium) build up on the brain. And most Alzheimers patients end up in a comalike state.

Please note that blood levels on this site are USA results. UK levels are very different. I had my operation 6 months ago, which was successful but because I have had it for many years, much damage has been done to my body. Have Osteoporosis and had acute pancreatitis causing my poor old body to give up. For info, one of my tumours was ectopic inside my thymus.
My very close friend suffers with this and I know she has been and back and forth to doctors somthing needs to be done

Lack of care and loss of blood test results from my medical practice meant I went undiagnosed for 6 years. I had my operation this year and feel so much better but wish it had been noticed earlier. All the signs were there but doctors, and even bone consultants, missed them.

I have this disease and it make you feel awful, you lose your memory (short term) I get a foggy head, I'm exhausted all the time, cry a lot for no reason think I feel old cause my bones are stiff in the morning constant headaches can't sleep losing my hair. The list goes on!!

Such a simple cure but so many doctors overlook it. The symptoms are hell & impossible to lead a normal life. The memory loss is so severe I thought I had dementia, the pain in my bones is excruciating, daily tasks are impossible, I have forgotten to spell, (Thank god for spell check), I slur my words like I'm drunk and I'm a non drinker, simple things like making a sandwich is so difficult let alone a meal, unable to concentrate on the road and have forgotten a lot of road rules and passwords to my accounts. The list goes on and I'm not the only one who has these symptoms every single day. I haven't read a book in 7 years and I fall asleep during the day often. I really hope that this condition can be considered more openly in the future so others don't have to suffer.
I've never heard of this I do have Thyroid Disease called Graves Disease and feel that son doctors unless they are top consultants understand it

Sadly only a handful of endocrinologists in the UK understand this awful disease and just a small number of decent surgeons can carry out successful parathyroidectomies. GP's in my opinion are totally useless and one should always get print offs of blood tests so you can check what your blood calcium level is otherwise it will get overlooked " no further action" is my surgery's favourite term. Also demand a PTH blood test particularly if you are diagnosed with osteoporosis. This should be mandatory but GP's just don't bother according to my endocrinologist.

This is a horrible condition. I had it and was eventually treated with surgery. Now my daughter has the same condition and so hard to see the effect on her and how hard she has had to work to get heard and we knew we had to shout loud. She's had surgery but now needs more as not all affected glands removed ... such a tough time for her... don't be told it's in your head it's very real
