As a scientist, community member, and CV graduate, I urge you to follow the new guidelines and open in person classrooms only under the recommended hybrid plan. Children are fully capable of spreading COVID-19 to adults and further may have long-term negative health effects. The lives and well-being of our precious students and teachers, as well as their families, are at risk until an effective vaccine is properly tested and provided in a high percentage of community members to provide herd immunity. Furthermore, numerous recent studies indicate airborne transmission as a major mode of virus spread, and until proven methods of removing viral particles from the air have been demonstrated by scientific studies, it is clearly unsafe to open classrooms for in person learning.
