Save the Lower Hutt Town and Horticultural Halls and stop the Council speculating with our money!

Stop this folly, this insane local self - aggrandisement

the buildings in this group are the only distictive ones in an otherwise rather dull looking city centre. Let's keep them well.

These halls have many years of use left and are part of Lower Hutt's identity. Don't waste our money!

demolition is a shortsighted "strategy" for the Hutt's future and destructive to it's past.

Hopefully someone can stop the council using their "projected costs" for options 3E+ and 3F as a way to put the public off retaining the Heritage integrity of the Halls. Stop the demolition. Stop the insanity.

I agree with Juanita, there are plenty of places that could be made more useful and aesthetically pleasing, but the area around the town hall and the halls themselves are just lovely, older buildings breath they are not cold hostile computer generated pieces that in 20 years time will be thought of as outdated and ugly.

Demolishing the existing structure would destroy one of the best modernist towers in the country. The proposed addition is not sympathetic to the existing building and is an unimagnative solution

When I think of Lower Hutt, I think of these buildings. They are very important to the image of the city and as such should be retained..

In New Zealand is now time to take a stand for the preservation of our built environment, especially in defense of buildings of undisputed historical and cultural value. Postponing this commitment is not a viable option. Historic and cultural heritage cannot be subject to individual interests.

I don't that strenghtning the city building is a 'top of the list' priority at rate payers expense..

These buildings have outstanding architectural merit and are key parts of a very important example of post-war town planning in New Zealand

As the daughter of the architect, W. Keith Cook, I wish to add my sincere hope that Council will not demolish these buildings. They do have cultural and architectural merit and form part of a graceful city centre that includes the library and gardens. There must be a better place to put a conference centre if one must be had. Although I no longer live in Lower Hutt I do visit frequenty and make a stop by these lovely old buildings part of my ramblings. Please don't tear them down.

As a frequent visitor from the UK I have to protest about this proposed act of cultural vandalism. The Town Hall and Horticultural Halls are buildings with real architectural merit. The centre of Lower Hutt has already been knocked about enough by insensitive development. Come up with a way to incorporate the old buildings into new plans.
