Save the Lower Hutt Town and Horticultural Halls and stop the Council speculating with our money!

I agree with Clare. They wouldn't do this in Napier!!

Lower Hutt has little of any architectural merit left, particularly when it comes to clusters of buildings: what on earth is the Council doing destroying what little we have left? This precinct could be a real destination for visitors for whom Lower Hutt must be one of the ugliest cities in New Zealand. Shame on the Council for their stealthy approach to demolition that would destroy forever the opportunity for the community to say what should happen to our heritage.

The Town and Horticulttural Halls are part of the Hutt and should be left. The Council should spend its money strengthening the Halls rather than pulling it down.

Please don't demolish these two wonderful old buildings, I remember them well, they are a part of our history.

Heritage buildings with architectural merit should be preserved and promoted for both the city and as a tourist attraction.

Every community needs a meeting place where people can come together.

Having grown up in Lower Hutt I know these 2 buildings well and they add to the character of this precinct, why do elected councillors who cnat get a normal job want to destroy everythng and get the ratepayers lumbered with debt? Increased debt from councils to build their legacy memerorials only leads to increased rates for ratepayers who actually don't see any benefit, if you want a conference centre get private enterprise to build if its such great opportunity then let it stand on its own two feet as a business, rather than have it subsidised by rate payers.

I was originally from Lower Hutt where I spent many visits to the Horticultural Hall to flower shows, stalls and dances, I dont want to see this hall or the Town Hall demolished and made way for a new conference hall, which I think is a waste of the ratepayers money and not needed.

I was born in Lower Hutt in 1946 and attended many functions/dances at both halls. Hutt Intermediate's 50th Jubilee which I attended was held in Horticultural Hall and I wouldhate to see these grand old buildings demolished.Even after more than 20 years away from L.Hutt this complex still means a lot to me.

Save the buildings

lower hutt can be proud of its exceptional modern heritage. If anything we should save these buildings and re-think the city...

I implore the Hutt Council to develop a regard for history and architecture,and refrain from the further demolition of significant and useful buildings in the city.

This building is an important cultural asset for the people of the Hutt Valley. It must be retained and protected. It is an important building of architectural significance. Why do we keep on pulling down buildings that are of historic value?

As much as I love my home of 50 years, after much travel worldwide I have come to believe Hutt City is one of the most ugly cities arcitecturally. The only saving grace is the group of buildings including the Town and Horticultural Hall that make up the civic centre. Once they are gone there is no going back. I believe the people of Lower Hutt must have the chance to not only decide whether these building remain or not but also to contribute ideas to beautify our city centre. Lets take this public interest as a real opportunity to shape Hutt into a city we can all be very proud of!

The Hutt Civic Centre as it presently is, makes the city distinctive and stand out. Work with what you've got, it's amazing.
