It's time Brampton commits to a city-building initiative as such. It will bring more business to the city and bring more livability to its residents. Downtown businesses are worried it will harm their profits but in reality will give hem more exposure, a greater target population, and an ideal location. GO LRT!

Studies from transit experts far more competent than any of us - or any politician - have shown the need for an LRT on this corridor, and the province has ponied up the cash based on the finding of these experts.. This is a very rare opportunity for change, and every argument against it turns out to be unfounded nimby’ism and fear that crumbles under the most basic rigour. Taxpayers need relief from traffic congestion, and downtown Brampton needs to be more than a hive for seedy bars, tattoo parlours, junk bazaars, and bong shops. City councillors need to prove they have spines and must vote in favour of the HMLRT and progress.

Brampton is not a small town anymore. Brampton need updated public transportation. Everyone complaints about the traffic, well people living in Brampton here is part of the solution. First time-- we, taxpayers don't have to pay for it. Let move forward.

Hi Matt, I would definitely suggest telling your neighbours to write to their respective councillor. All councillor contact can be found here: http://bramptonist.com/hurontario-main-lrt-the-next-steps/ People have made it sound like all of the downtown business owners are against this unfortunately, it sounds like that isn't the case at all and Council needs to hear this. I hope you'll tell your neighbours to sign this petition and state in the comment that they're from the Downtown. I will be delegating and can share these comments on the 8th. If you're interested in delegating on behalf of your neighbours, I think there's still time to submit a delegation form.

As a resident living in Ward 1, and a resident of the Historical Downtown Core (directly off of Main Street), I feel as though it is important to express my support of the proposed LRT route. It is my opinion that having the LRT route stop at the Gateway Bus Terminal would render the route relatively meaningless. I believe the idea of the LRT is to increase foot traffic into the downtown core, and without the LRT actually reaching this goal won't be served. Secondly, the idea that the LRT will negatively impact traffic in the downtown core has been given far too much attention. We all know that traffic through Queen and Main is horrific during the rush hour and on weekends. An LRT will hopefully replace vehicle's from the road and in turn alleviate traffic. It is also worth noting that we already deal with traffic caused by BRT (Zum), which will be replaced by LRT vehicles. Consequently it seems that an LRT will have, at worst, a neutral effect on traffic. Lastly, I am a resident who has access to a vehicle and so, the option to drive to work; I believe that an LRT will give myself and others in similar situations better access to all day GO at Port Credit station as well as an easy route to both Square One and Port Credit district. More importantly it will help draw residents from MIssissauga to Downtown Brampton helping our small business owners. The opinion of residents in the Downtown area should be represented accurately at the July 8 city council vote. I have not spoken to a single neighbour on my street that does not believe the LRT option through Main/Queen is one that will benefit the residents in the Downtown Brampton area.
