My child goes to Walton le dale always enjoys PE .she also does a sport which she undertakes 16 hours plus a week. Prior to the training she has to do intense conditioning which sometimes is 2hours out of a 3 hour lesson. She doesn’t always enjoy this but this is the strategy of her coaches she moans but it certainly isn’t bullying or trying to humiliate any children. In fact it makes the children toughen up and work harder.

Sounds to me like the PE department need to re-evaluate how to get children enjoying fitness instead of them increasing their anxiety levels. Disgusting behaviour.

We should be making pe enjoyable for everyone, and using encouragement to engage the children! Not give them any more reasons so hate it! Some children are not athletic - and shouldn’t be punished and humiliated for this

My son goes to WLD and he says that, yes. they do start lessons with a 6 minute run but he has never seen a child or the class have to re-start the 6 minutes again. Some of the children do walk but they are not punished for it. So please, lets have some balance here. Everybody is jumping on the bandwagon here and, if has happened, it may be an isolated incident and there may be more to the story. My child is very happy with the school and only has positive things to say about it. When I showed him the petition he was shocked!

if a child is upset about PE lessons then something must be done to put the child at ease- make into a game of enjoyment not pressure.

Im sorry but I attended this school and as someone who has always struggled with my Weight and hated PE I totally disagree with this petition! This happened when I was there and taught me that as long as you tried you were never persecuted, the amazing PE teacher at that school always told me that the outcome didn’t matter just to try my best and if that’s not a moral you want your child growing up with then I think you need to re evaluate not them!

I’m not sure what to say about this petition! I have had 2 children attending WLD. both were not keen on PE but both loved the dedication of the sporting staff at wanting to get the best out of each and every child

Not all children can run for that long due to stamina and majority of it is due to health issues such as heart problems there should not have to re run the 6 minute tests and espeically children who have hear problems or severe health issues or diabetes who runs for 6 mind anyway

After reading this the PE lesson needs to be more structured. The bleep test is a good exercise for all fitness levels.

I was very anxious in my PE lessons whilst at school as a larger teenager. I am now a teacher who understands the importance of children loving PE and thought the days of humiliating children who are not as athletic as their peers were over. We are expected to differentiate in all other lessons, so why a different expectation through PE?

This is disgusting and absolutely no way to encourage children of all abilities to enjoy physical education. Whom ever believes this is an effective way of aiding children's fitness seriously needs to rethink why they are in education in the first place!
No wonder kids have confidence issues!
Warms ups are meant to build from slow to faster, building gradually. Running from the start is not the recommended way to warm up!
My child would not be attending PE lessons if they did this in his school.

No child should be made to feel humiliated and singled out by a teacher

My concern aside from the bullying element is the general well being of these children. What if a child is an undiagnosed asthmatic and cannot run this could be potentially dangerous. Surely alternative exercises can be considered. PE should be fun, a chance to socialise, exercise, team build and develop... Not a trauma!
