On June 29, 2008, Uhuru Movement leaders Dr. Aisha Fields, Kobina Bantushango (Thomas Buchanan) and Dr. Michelle Strongfields were brutalized and arrested in Huntsville, Alabama by Huntsville police. On the way to the airport they stopped for gas near their home, which is in the vicinity of Alabama A&M University, where the Black Arts Festival had just concluded. There they saw police harassing an African couple. They exercised their legal right to photograph and observe the police activity. The police became agitated at being exposed and proceeded to brutalize, handcuff and arrest them ("obstructing justice" and "resisting arrest"). The police threatened to seize the 3 children that were in the car - ages 4, 1, and 7 months - who were eventually secured in the hands of relatives I support the just demand that all charges be immediately dropped against the HSV3. I understand the attack on the HSV3 to be an attack against the entire African community and a violation of their democratic rights.

I have been spending my time reading the messages you are leaving and they are truly humbling to witness. Seeing people connect with the struggle of the Huntsville 3 reminds me that this effort belongs entirely to you. I am just holding the space for the justice we are all seeking together.

The huntsville police ane negligent and need to be held accountable. The huntsville al police are corrupt. Their investigations are abusive and corrupt, they misuse the grand jury system. They need to be held accountable they need to conduct themselves in the same fashion as San franciso and Marion county or Oregon, but bc we are in the Deep South their misconduct is deemed “acceptable” yet it’s unacceptable. I left the state of Alabama and moved to Colorado bc of this. Their misconduct.

I lived in Huntsville for years and saw how they treat people. It is shameful. These charges are a joke and everyone knows it.

The police were obviously overreacting bc they knew they were doing something wrong. Shame on HPD for attacking these people for just observing.

Ridiculous that they felt threatened by someone with a camera. That is literally just doing their job. Let them go.

This is total bull. HPD has always been like this. They just want to shut down people who try to document the truth. Drop the charges now.
