We have been patient, allowed for the what ifs that never materialized and watched as the masses were sacrificed to (potentially) save a few. Those masses are our children. They're not just numbers or data, but live, little humans whose worlds have been turned upside down. Not by the pandemic, but by those who are in a position of elected power as they continue to assert that every other facet of life is safe to be open *except for* HSE Schools. The admin of HSE, the Superintendent, school board, Fishers Health Dept, the teacher's Union and yes, Mayor Fadness have all been complicit in their self righteousness (notice I didn't say all teachers as there are many teachers who are phenomenal and have supported a return to the classrooms). The collective
'they' simply DO NOT CARE that our children are suffering and our livelihoods are being threatened by parents having to navigate virtual education in addition to being employees. Give families the choice to put our children back in school.

Please find a way to get students back in class. Make a plan to allow students and teachers who prefer virtual to remain virtual and those who want IN PERSON learning to be IN PERSON. This is not a one-size-fits-all situation. Students are suffering mentally. Please make a plan to get these kids back in class.

BOTH of my kids said they almost fell asleep during class today. This form of instruction IS NOT working for all students. GIVE US THE CHOICE!

I have three kids. Each are struggling in their own ways. The worst is my daughter who is physically struggling because she’s in kindergarten and can’t be in school. My boys aren’t retaining anything they learn and struggle to keep up. This is not learning!

Let the kids get back into the school building for in-school learning. Neither of my kids learn by virtual learning. Also, the mental health of so many kids is negatively impacted by not allowing them into the school to learn. HSE needs to get it together, and allow a CHOICE to ALL!!!!!

My two third graders who usually do great at school received C's on their report cards. They do not learn by watching videos. They are in a room with 50 other kids and no one to help them learn. The teacher cannot gauge their understanding through zooms. She cannot make sure they are paying attention. Zooms do not work. The school board members claim that even though they are not IN school, they are still "in" school. No they aren't. They are not learning like they should. My kindergartener is suppose to be reading sight words but only knows three letters of the alphabet. I am not able to teach them during the day because I WORK. I cannot afford to pay one person to work one on one with my kids. I cannot afford to not work. My kindergartener cannot read his worksheets to know what he is supposed to do. He doesn't know how to tell time to make it to his zooms. I can set alarms on his iPad, but I'm not there to make sure he gets on or to see what he is supposed to be learning so I can teach him in the evening (you know, when we are supposed to be making dinner, doing laundry, having family time, doing bedtime routines). In the perfect world, a parent would be able to stay home and teach their kids. Unfortunately, it seems that those making decisions don't know what reality is. Parents work and little kids end up staying home alone because their parents can't afford daycare or they end up with 50 kids in a daycare setting. There is no reason that elementary students who stay in one room all day long should not be in school.

“Equity” is about far more than skin color or physical differences. If equity is truly a priority, as stated, then we MUST have an equal option for in-person education since the data support reopening our schools at all grade levels (based on minimal risk of transmission at school and the mental health and educational risks of the alternative).

Yes! At LEAST provide the option for the families who want to be in person.
