HS2 - impending devastation of Hampstead

Pro-HS2 -- but also pro disruption mitigation

I am totally opposed; the disruption in North London would be catastrophic.

Fat profits for Construction against destruction of communities.

There are two issues to be addressed. First the project is ill conceived in terms of claiming that cutting journey times has an immediate economic benefit. The benefit will go to the better off people who can afford premium price rail fares. Others will find little or no change or indeed gravitate towards cheaper slower service, as is the case today. The benefit to the regions also appears disingenuous given it is unproven other than in France where it only helped Paris. Second, in terms of implementation, the impact on Camden as a whole is only just being realised. The sheer volume of works will make the area, which is a key artery for London , will simply seize up. It can hardly cope today but if the closures are added to the huge rise in construction traffic, will create a disaster not just here but one which will be spread quickly to all London. Closing the North London Line for years will increase traffic elsewhere which it has just relieved. This part of the plan could be a separate project after the main works are over. If the project does go ahead because politician lack the courage to recognise reality, then for Camden, and indeed London to continue functioning, the route needs to be changed, construction plans need to take the traffic needs into account and more tunnelling to avoid the surface destruction.

Somebody needs to call a halt to this madness, which will bring disruption and distress to so many local communities for so many years!

The HS2 project is ill conceived, costly and will have a devastating impact on Hampstead and environs, and other areas, and should be scrapped in its entirety. Can the public not take out a class action suit against

How can destroying our environments and communities be acceptable ..it is unbelievable that this could actually happen.

a tunnel would make the best sense and for not that much more money, saving businesses and the environment.

Please halt this impending devastation.

20 minutes off a train journey is not a logical return for the damage and caused in trying to achieve it.

We do not need more traffic through Hampstead causing damage to the roads

HS2 costs (very expensive) and disruption outweighs the small benefits (20 min faster journey to Birmingham) and does not prove the case for a good Return on Investment in terms of the overall sustainability and economic impact. We expect the government and partners on this project to review their proposal with the aim to lower significantly the cost and disruption and compensate impacted citizens properly.

Please stop HS2. The errect on Hampstead village would be damaging, and the impact on the Royal Free Hospital would be disasterous.

It would be much better and cheaper to stop at Old Oak Common.

I am particularly concerned about the impact on the Royal Free Hospital and its patients from all over North London. I am also entirely opposed to HS2 for being both unnecessary and extremely expensive.

I am in full agreement with the arguements set out in the letter.

Please ST0P HS2 from being built.

HS2Ltd are seen to be totally unaware of the consequences of the proposed works on the Borough Of Camden judging by the paucity & inaccuracy of their Environmental Statement . Any knowledge about the practical workings & lives of the local business economy and the residents is missing in the Statement . At worst scenario it will cripple the business economy with huge loss of jobs . Tunnelling throughout is the only option if this scheme HAS to go ahead , with a double decker terminus at Euston . Oak Common seems the better option though if this misguided project is ever passed by the UK Govt
