It is staggering this HS2 project is still being progressed against so much opposition and criticism on the principles of cutting 20 minutes on the journey time. It simply cannot change the perception or commercial viability of our more Northern Cities. The pending dramatic engineering necessary and devastation locally is only the beginning of National Chaos. Executing this project could easily destabilise the Government who is seen to to be the one to finally commit to it. Far better an effective national statement would be to orchestrate planned serious upgrades to the present routes and focus Serious energy on a World Class Flagship Airport on the Isle of Grain - linked by the new Crossrail - and the wholesale redevelopment of the areas covered by hapless and disparate Heathrow, as likely one of Europes largest mixed-use Brownfield development sites for all uses. This wiy=uld negate consumption of valuable Greenbelt and Greefield sites around london. Such a project would greatly encourage the western technological and creative corridor.

Local MP Frank Dobson has already suggested 'the line is built in a tunnel all the way to Kings Cross/St Pancras and not as part of the London Overground.' Maybe that's a reasonable compromise. Otherwise the risks look too great.

The land under Hampstead Village is well recognised to be one of the most unstable in London made of up bagshot gravel and shifting sands. The potential effects on Hampstead Village for the building of the proposed High Speed 2 rail link would further undermine the already recognised instability of the neighbourhood.The proposed works would have a disastrous effect on this renowned conservation area and the
