All people should be allowed to marry without paying a penalty in their income. Especially those with special needs and require government assistance.

I am thankful there is someone who is doing this as it can affect different people. I have been married for the past 15 years my husband invites me to groups and I am not able to. I know it is a security thing but not being able to be in the same group is a bit strange.

Please sign this! Disabled people deserve marriage equality without worrying about their benefits! Many of us fight tooth and nail for our much deserved and needed benefits, just to risk losing them for a legal document is unheard of!

When a person is born disabled or becomes disabled before they become an adult, they are known as Disabled Adult Children, or DAC. If DAC are unable to earn enough work credits on their own, then when their parents retire or die, they can receive benefits based on their parent’s retirement. However, these benefits automatically stop if they get married. That means DAC lose their income and medical insurance for getting married. To survive, a DAC can only marry somebody rich enough and generous enough to provide for both of them, including all the extra needs a disabled person might have. That does not happen often. So, most of the time, disabled people will not have enough resources to survive if they get married, which means they cannot get married. And in areas that have common-law marriages, they cannot even live with somebody they love. In this way, they have fewer rights to be with somebody than homosexuals did. SSI disabilities rules are not as bad as DAC rules in that a person does not automatically lose SSI for getting married. But the spouse’s income and assets could cause the disabled person to lose medical insurance and all income. SSI allows for very few assets and income. So the disabled person would have to, once again, marry somebody rich enough and generous enough to totally take over their care, or they would have to marry somebody so poor their assets and income wouldn’t stop benefits. Being married is difficult. Being married when somebody is disabled is more difficult. However, what if a spouse has to pass over a promotion that he/she really wants because going just a little over the income limit means he/she would have to be completely responsible for all the household bills and medical needs? That kind of thing might unnecessarily end a marriage. Disabled people should not have to choose between having enough to live on and marrying that special someone. Disabled people dese

I agree that people with disabilities should have the right to be able to marry without losing the ssi and ssdi benefits they have earned

If a couple of people are married. And one has a disability. Funds should not be stopped.

I cannot believe this is an issue. People with disabilities should not have to suffer financially as well.

I am a married disabled legally blind woman who lost her ssi when I married back in 07. I barely qualify visually now for a state funded program for the blind here in Missouri. Every few years I risk loosing this state funding. If this passes, I could go back on ssi, or even maybe ssdi survivors benefits, since I was the only living disabled child of a mother who died of pancreatic cancer back in 2016.
