We, the undersigned, request that Hornsby Council immediately replaces Hornsby Pool with a 50m outdoor pool for the following reasons : • An Olympic size pool is needed for lap swimming, squad training and Learn to Swim programs. • Hornsby pool is well patronized. Thousands of swimmers used the pool that closes on Xmas Eve 2010. • A 50m pool in Hornsby CBD allows people in the community to exercise and keep fit regardless of income. Swimmers that use this pool include the very young to the elderly, able bodied swimmers as well as disabled ones. Public Housing exists in Hornsby as well as high rise developments. A facility is needed within the Hornsby CBD to make it affordable for the residents. • The present pool is an excellent recreational facility close to transport and the Hornsby CBD. It needs to be replaced immediately. • The nearest pool is a half hour drive, much longer using public transport. • There are no Council sporting facilities between Waitara and Brooklyn, except for 2 skateboard parks, tennis courts and sporting fields. Galston has a pool, a gym, a skateboard park, an Equestrian Centre (Rural Sports Facility),tennis courts and sports fields, while Epping and Cherrybrook both have pools, tennis courts and sporting fields, and Cherrybrook also has a skateboard park.
